Arizona Governor Jan Brewer told Fox News that the recent release of illegal immigrants by federal immigration officials from the Pinal County jails was "payback" because of the state's "strong" position on securing the border.

When the host asked whether Washington was picking on Arizona, Brewer responded:

"I think it's pretty obvious that they're doing everything in their power . . . I mean, this is just another notch in their belt bucket, if you will."

Yeah, we're pretty sure that when she was finally able to push the words out of her mouth, she said "belt bucket."

"Obamacare": Nancy Barto, Senate Health Chair, Drops Multiple Debunked Talking Points About Law, Including the "Lie of the Year"

Nancy Barto
Republican state Senator Nancy Barto is the chairman of the Senate Healthcare and Medical Liability Reform Committee, which would make you think Barto knows a thing or two about how health care works.

After taking a look at her comments on the Supreme Court's decision to uphold the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act -- "Obamacare" -- it looks like she may know only one thing or two about how health care works.

When we noticed she used the phrase "government takeover of health care" -- dubbed "Lie of the Year" by the fact-checkers at PolitiFact -- we checked out some of the other claims she made about the law, and it's not too factual for the chair of a health care committee.

Jason Rose
We've asked before, but we gotta ask again because publicist extraordinaire Jason Rose hit another skid.

Is the guru losing his mojo?

A campaign run by the Policy Development Group last spring to incorporate a small community near the Grand Canyon so artfully defeated Rose -- who was running the opposition campaign -- that it won gold at the National "Pollie" award ceremony in D.C. on Friday.

Phoenix Police Chief Jack Harris Not Clear On Real Issue Involving Inaccurate Kidnapping Stats; New Times Sets the Record Straight

Categories: Spin This
Let's be clear about a few things regarding Phoenix's kidnapping statistics snafu.

Phoenix Police Chief Jack Harris tells the Arizona Republic that he is outraged at what is happening in the community regarding kidnappings and other crimes, and he adds:

"If anyone doubts we have a home-invasion problem in this community . . . they must have been under a rock."

The scrutiny is not because anyone doubts that border-related kidnappings and home invasions are taking place in the Valley. Not even the Phoenix Police Law Enforcement Assocation -- Harris' worst critics -- doubts that these crimes are real.

The issue is that Phoenix police officials have clearly misled the public by saying for months that 2008 statistics were valid when, in fact, they were not -- saying they reviewed the figures, when clearly, they had not.

Is PR Stuntman Jason Rose "Wilting"? The Arizona Guardian's Winged One Gives Him a Feather-Lashing

Is Jason Rose still a political heavyweight?
Jason Rose has never been one to mince words or hold back on a stunt if he thinks it would win him political points. And points for his clients, of course.

Rose has worked hard to earn a reputation as a straight-talking, political-bomb-lobbing public-relations go-to guy -- especially in times of crisis.

But he might be the one with the crisis now.

The Arizona Guardian Web site's Winged One recently had a straight-talking piece of its own describing the Valley's "wilting Rose" recently losing his "business partners, employees and possibly his place in Arizona politics."

Painful. But Rose has no doubt developed thickest of skins playing politics the way he has over the years. He's certainly not gonna run home crying to his mommy over the Guardian's analysis.

"If you throw punches, you better be able to take them," Rose said, adding that he vehemently, but respectfully disagree with the Guardian. He said members of his firm dishe out plenty, but in the end, are "passionate, creative advocates" for their clients. He said he doesn't apologize for that at all.
