Boy Scout Gets Lost in Santa Rita Mountains; Fairly Useless Scout Master Didn't Really Know Where He Was Either

Sending teenage boy scouts out overnight to fend for themselves in the middle of the Santa Rita Mountains -- a popular spot for human and drug smuggling -- might not be the brightest idea.

It apparently sounded like a good plan to the troop masters of the 14-year-old Boy Scout who called 9-1-1 Wednesday night after getting lost during his quest to earn a merit badge.

U.S. Border Patrol helicopters and Pima County Sheriff's deputies descended on the mountains Wednesday after receiving the call at 9:39 p.m. from the scared, young teen, Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesman Tom Peine tells New Times.

Bears Are Acting Like A-Holes in the Tonto National Forest

There have been only 10 documented bear attacks in Arizona since 1990.

Three of those have come in the last month.

A Tempe man hanging out at the Ponderosa Campground in the Tonto National Forest was the third person attacked by a bear this month, after the bear went into his tent around 5 a.m. yesterday, according to the Arizona Game and Fish Department.

Missing New Mexico Couple Lived in Car For Five Days to Avoid Eastern Arizona Storms; Wife Found Dead

A missing New Mexico couple -- last seen in Chandler last week -- lived in their car for five days to avoid storms that pounded eastern Arizona over the weekend after they got lost in a remote area east of Globe

Chandler Detective Seth Tyler says Dana Davis, 86, and his wife, Elizabeth Davis, 82, were found this morning by an Arizona Game & Fish Department officer.

Dana Davis was found walking down a forest road. Elizabeth Davis was found dead near the couple's vehicle.

After getting rescued, Dana Davis told authorities he and his wife
left Globe on Thursday with the intent on traveling on the US 60 to Socorro, New Mexico, where they planned to visit the Bosque Del Apache wildlife refuge.
