Phoenix Most "Miserable" City in U.S., According to Wall Street Journal

If the misery of your daily life has you wanting to eat a bullet rather than face the reality of another day, you may want to consider moving -- Phoenix has been ranked the most miserable city in the entire country.

According to a Dow Jones/Wall Street Journal "misery index," Phoenix's changes in unemployment rates, high gas prices, and decreasing home values is making Phoenicians more miserable than residents of any other large metropolitan area.

Phoenix/Scottsdale Among Country's "Rudest Cities"

It seems certain Valley residents need to watch their manners -- according to a recent survey, people from Phoenix and Scottsdale are among the rudest in the entire country.

The survey, conducted by Travel and Leisure Magazine, ranks Phoenix/Scottsdale No. 12 on its list of the country's rudest cities.

​Phoenix has gotten sort of a bad rap lately -- ya know, the miserable economy, the housing bust, the Legislature being hell-bent to return Arizona to its wild west days -- but according to a recent study, Phoenix is a great place to be for recent college grads.

The Web sites Apartments.com and Careerrookie.com conducted a study to determine the cities most friendly to recent college grads, and Phoenix ranked number two on the list.

The study compares the cost of renting an apartment, the concentration of young adults, and the cities' job inventory, specifically jobs that require less than a year's experience. About 200 cities were considered.

As the saying goes, "if you like it, then you shoulda put a ring on it."

However, if you're a single woman, and nobody is yet to "like it" enough to take the plunge and buy that ring, Phoenix, apparently, isn't a bad spot to live.

A Web site targeting single women released its list of America's top cities for single ladies and believe it or not, Phoenix was pretty high on the list.

Single Minded Women, a Web site geared toward that whole Sex and the City crowd, claims that Phoenix ranks sixth on the site's list of top-10 cities for single women.
