Arizona DUI Task Forces Have Arrested Nearly 1,000 People in the Last Two Weeks

Since the week of Thanksgiving, nearly 1,000 people around Arizona have been arrested for DUI by one of the DUI task forces around the state.

These task forces operate from late November through the end of the year (as they have in previous years), and stats from the Governor's Office of Highway safety show a yearly average of around 4,000 DUI arrests for these end-of-year task forces.

Driver in Fatal Phoenix Crash Had Blood-Alcohol Level Four Times the Legal Limit

A man who crashed his car into a tree and a wall on the side of Interstate 10 earlier week, killing one passenger and injuring another, was extremely drunk, according to police.

According to court documents obtained by New Times, 34-year-old Edwin Hurt had a blood-alcohol level of .317, which is just about four times the so-called legal limit of .08.

Over Labor Day weekend, 656 Arizonans celebrated with a good ol' fashioned DUI arrest.

Of those arrests, 126 were for driving of the influence of drugs, which is the highest in recent history.

Matthew McIver Was Drunk-Driving When He Hit a Man on a Tricycle, Killing Him, Cops Say

A Mesa man is accused of pounding several beers before getting behind the wheel and hitting a man riding a tricycle, killing him.

Matthew McIver, 36, has been arrested, a week after the fatal crash.

Drunk Driver Crashes Car, Then Tosses Son Over 8-Foot Wall to Run From Cops

Like this, except there's a high wall right there, and dad didn't make plans to catch the kid.


Lance Wallis, a 40-year-old West Valley resident, will not be bringing home the "Father of the Year" award for 2013.

That's because police say Wallis, who was driving drunk, crashed his car in Sun City West, and ordered his passengers -- his 4-year-old son and teenage niece -- to run. According to court documents obtained by New Times, Wallis tossed his 4-year-old son over an 8-foot wall and darted the other way once a Maricopa County sheriff's deputy started chasing him.
