Julius Elmer Grosso, 93, had to be pulled from his car and handcuffed after police determined he was too drunk to drive. The suspect was driving on a suspended license from a previous DUI.

At age 93, Julius Elmer Grosso of Scottsdale is one of those senior citizens who doesn't want to give up his car keys -- even after a two-hour drinking binge.

Cops say the stubborn nonagenerian gave them a hard time during a DUI investigation over the weekend, resulting in Grosso having to be pulled from his Buick, cuffed and arrested.

Grosso showed up at Zipp's bar, 7551 East Camelback Road, at about 5 p.m. on Saturday and proceeded to get hammered on scotch, according to a police report. His bar receipt, examined later by cops, showed he had six shots before leaving the place two hours later.

Phoenix police have identified 19-year-old Pedro Ramirez as the allegedly drunk driver who got in a head-on collision on the morning of April 30, killing a 5-year-old boy.

The boy's mom was arrested, too, and faces child-abuse charges for putting her youngster in the car driven by Ramirez, and not placing the boy in any of the three child-safety seats in her car, according to police.

Police said not one of the three occupants in the car driven by Ramirez was wearing a seat belt, as Ramirez, allegedly drunk, crossed the center line around 8 a.m. that morning and crashed head-on into a Chevy truck.

Five-year-old Angel Alvarez died from the crash, and his mother, 21-year-old Evangelina Barrios, sustained serious injuries.

Ramirez was in critical condition after the crash, and police delayed releasing his name due to his "incapacitating injury," and charges against him were pending.

Unfortunately, it looks like yesterday's crash in Phoenix is leading to all three.
If Phoenix police are right on this one, then just about nothing was appropriate inside the sedan that crashed head-on into a Chevrolet truck Monday morning.

Police say a 5-year-old boy in the sedan died in the crash, as cops believe the boy not only was not restrained by a car seat, but wasn't wearing a seat belt at all. And he possibly was in the front seat of the car, too.

To make matters worse, Phoenix police say, the sedan's driver, a 19-year-old man, did not have a driver's license, and alcohol impairment is suspected in the 8 a.m. crash.

In fact, police say none of the three occupants of the sedan was wearing a seat belt, leaving all three injured or worse.

Five-year-old Angel Alvarez died, and his 21-year-old mother sustained "serious injuries" in the crash.

Australian professional golfer Matthew Giles took a drive into a Gilbert house on Monday, according to police.

According to the "extreme DUI" charge Giles was booked into jail on, police are thinking alcohol may have had something to do with it.

A little before 10 p.m. Monday, Giles "was traveling at a very high rate of speed and tried to make a left turn, whereby he lost control collided into a single family home," according to a Gilbert police spokesman.

No one was injured, but police say other homes in the area -- the 3600 block of East Fruitvale Avenue -- had to be evacuated after Giles ran over and ruptured a gas line.

Judd Herberger Sentenced to Four Months in Prison for Felony DUI

Judd Herberger was sentenced today to four months in prison after his conviction on an aggravated DUI charge.
​Judd Herberger, son of the late Valley philanthropists, was sentenced today to four months in state prison for a felony DUI he received last year in Scottsdale.

The 70-year-old businessman had been driving drunk despite the fact that his driver's license had been revoked after his extreme DUI conviction from the year before. In April 2011, he served 15 days in jail in that case -- a month after his most recent arrest.

He was booked into a Maricopa County jail on February 23 after signing a plea agreement.

William Foreman, Herberger's Scottsdale attorney, notes that Herberger received the minimum sentence for the offense and will receive 30 days' credit for the time he's served in jail.

Judd Herberger, 70, is scheduled to be sentenced tomorrow on an aggravated DUI charge.
​Judd Herberger, the son of late Valley philanthropists Kax and Robert Herberger, will be sentenced tomorrow on a felony DUI charge.

Court records don't show how much time he'll get, but Herberger, 70, was booked into jail after he pleaded guilty on February 23 to aggravated DUI, a class 4 felony. Another charge, for driving on a revoked license, was dropped in his plea deal.

Herberger was busted last March in Scottsdale.

His famous last name is attached to the Herberger Theater in Phoenix and Arizona State University's Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts.

Judd Herberger owns Herberger Enterprises, a property management and real estate company.

Cops: James Polinori Found Pissing on Himself During DUI Stop -- Which is Hilarious, According to His Facebook Friends

Cops found James Polinori pissing on himself during a DUI stop over the weekend.
​When you gotta go, you gotta go -- even if you're getting stopped for a DUI.

When police found 36-year-old James Polinori stopped on the side of the road Saturday night, he was pissing all over himself -- and his .254 blood alcohol content might explain why.

According to court records obtained by New Times, Polinori, the owner of Jimmy Joseph Lux Spa in Glendale, was driving in the 34,000 block of North Valley Parkway in Phoenix about 10 p.m. Saturday.

Other motorists watched as Polinori weaved in and out of traffic, nearly causing multiple accidents.

One concerned motorist called police because she suspected the swerving driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

When police found Polinori -- and his vehicle -- he was out of the car and standing near a rear tire...pissing all over himself.

"Super Extremely" Drunk Mohave County Motorist Flags Down Firefighter to Help Find Car Keys; Now Charged With DUI. Keys Found on Dashboard

​There's good news and bad news for 60-year-old Shaun Deter, who lost his keys after his vehicle malfunctioned while he was allegedly "super" extremely drunk and driving last night.

The good news: his keys have been found (they were on his dashboard).

The bad news: they were found by a firefighter who Deter flagged down to help him in his search. He's now charged with "super extreme" DUI -- a crime we've never actually heard of, but apparently exists in the Grand Canyon State.

Mohave County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Trish Carter tells New Times that about 9:15 p.m. yesterday, a firefighter on his way back to his station found Deter -- and his vehicle -- on the shoulder of Stockton Hill Road.

Deter had flagged the fireman down, so he stopped and asked what he needed.

Pinal County Deputy County Assessor Jacqueline Minto slammed her car into the back of another vehicle last night. Her BAC was .183.
​Getting stopped for DUI seems to be all the rage at the Pinal County Assessor's Office these days -- just seven months after County Assessor Paul Larkin got pinched for driving tipsy, Assistant County Assessor Jacqueline Minto was nabbed for extreme DUI.

Last night, Minto was involved in a serious injury collision in San Tan Valley -- and she was apparently wasted.

According to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, Minto failed to stop at a red light about 7 p.m. yesterday. She slammed into the back of one car, which then slammed into the car in front of it.

​Phoenix police confirm to New Times that for the second time in two weeks, Jeffrey Hendershott, the son of ousted former MCSO Chief Deputy Dave Hendershott, was arrested for DUI.

The kicker: the DUI happened at 10:30 in the morning.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, the younger Hendershott was stopped Sunday morning near 27th Drive and Carefree Highway.

Hendershott, police say, was seen by several witnesses demonstrating "poor driving behavior" while driving northbound on the 1-17, approaching the Carefree Highway.
