San Felipe's Cantina on Sunday, May 4

Whatever your opinion on immigration laws, there’s one Mexican import that all Zonies seem to agree on. OK, two: burritos, and the cerveza- and margarita-filled extravaganza that is Cinco de Mayo. We’ll gladly join any celebration that calls for heavy drinking. Since we were so pumped, we got a good head start at the “Cinco de Drinko” party on Sunday, May 4, at San Felipe’s Cantina. It was the first night of the two-day shindig, and the place sported a healthy crowd munching on nachos and watching live bands. The vibe was pretty relaxed because we’re betting most folks had to work the next day. Sure enough for us, Monday morning was brutal. But it was nothing a shot of tequila couldn’t fix.

Silver Martini & Wine in Phoenix on Saturday, April 26.

It’s been too long since we hit the downtown scene, and we were beginning to miss our old digs. So on Saturday, April 26, we strolled down Washington Street looking for a dance fix. After circling construction zones and avoiding homeless crackheads, we stumbled into a swank little spot called Silver.

The floor was full of salsa dancing, as Latin beats shook the walls. There were some super-hot mamas hitting the floor with some pretty killer moves. In fact, they were so good, we were too intimidated to jump in. So we decided to slam a drink and chat it up while we took photos. Next time, we’ll hit the liquor harder and be sure to shake it.

Handlebar J in Scottsdale on Saturday, April 19th

Lately, we’ve been feeling like this town is tapped out. Every weekend, it’s the same faces, same get-ups, and same mornings of scattered memories and regrets. So we wallowed in our boredom by staying in and watching movies. But by Saturday night, we couldn’t take it anymore. It was time to get back on the horse, dammit.
So we squeezed into our tightest jeans, threw on a Western shirt, and hopped into a pair of cowboy boots for a Saturday night at Handlebar J in Scottsdale. On Saturday, April 19, we were thrilled to find a whole new crew of strapping men who can guzzle beers and twirl on the dance floor with their lady of choice. The rugged, little bar resurged our partying desires and will surely provide inspiration for the weeks to come. Thank you, Handlebar J. We were beginning to lose faith.

Hazelwood's 1st Place Sports Grill on Saturday, April 12th.

For more to fantasize about click here.

This weekend, we decided to check out one of those places we’ve passed by a million times but have never bothered to stop in. Rumor has it that Hazelwood’s is loaded with duders, watching sports and busting some brodiac behavior. But we hit it on a Saturday when the karaoke machine was cranking, so the joint was filled with that random weirdo crowd only karaoke can inspire. We didn’t care. As long as the scene was sans bro, we decided to stick around.

Probably due to the ginormous beer steins, everyone seemed to be in good spirits as we buzzed around and snapped photos. With the amateur singing, TV’s blaring, and electronic trivia, it got to be a little over-stimulating, so we eventually had to bail. Or maybe it was just our nagging sobriety that got us down. Sure, one of those gigantic beers would’ve helped, but we had to get behind the wheel for a night of chasing the party dragon. We’ll keep that stein in mind for a night when we’re ready to settle.

Cherry Bomb!'s April Pre-Pride party at the Rogue on Thursday, April 3rd.

Oh, Thursdays. Our favorite night to go out. We’ve all got an early morning, so instead of drunkenly agreeing to go home with our choice of sex object, a mere phone number is in order. Beautiful.
And on Thursday, April 3, it was particularly beautiful at the monthly homo-haven for ladies, Cherry Bomb! at the Rogue. The pre-pride party was just what we needed to gear up for the upcoming gay gala this weekend at Steele Indian School Park. The dance music was blasting and the stage boasted a few select souls shaking it out. And of course, the night wouldn’t be complete without the obligatory pair of hot blondes lezzing out in the corner. Not bad for a Thursday.
