New Times readers and people who follow NFL media types may have noticed the ad placed by a local smoke shop in a recent issue of New Times, inviting Arizona Cardinals rookie Tyrann Mathieu -- who tested positive for marijuana in an obscenely high number of drug tests in college -- to come on over to the shop.

For some reason, a reporter actually asked Mathieu about the ad in a press conference Thursday, and it didn't sound like Mathieu will be a new customer.

Jonathan Cooper
It might not be the most exciting pick as far as play-making is concerned, but the Arizona Cardinals selected offensive guard Jonathan Cooper with the team's first-round pick, the seventh pick overall.

It's probably a good pick for the Cardinals, based on the anemic offensive-line play from last year, and you can only hope he's better than the Cards' last offensive lineman picked in the first round, Levi Brown -- who was picked fifth overall in 2007, two spots before Adrian Peterson.

The Arizona Cardinals have released quarterback Kevin Kolb, and the replacement plan isn't exactly reassuring.

Former Indianapolis Colts backup Drew Stanton joins Brian Hoyer, John Skelton, and Ryan Lindley as the Cardinals' quarterbacks -- a group of guys we couldn't say with 100 percent certainty would be starters at the Arena Football League level.

Although there are several answers to that question, here's one of them: Just a few years ago, he was the fourth-string quarterback on the absolute worst team in NFL history.

The Arizona Cardinals cut running back Chris "Beanie" Wells on Monday, which tells the world that the quarterback position isn't the only severe problem with the team's roster.

Wells, the Cardinals' number-one pick in the 2009 draft, was injured and injured often during his stint with the team, and his departure doesn't exactly leave the Cardinals with a lengthy highlight reel from the backfield.
