Jan Brewer "Couldn't Think of Anyone Better" Than Sarah Palin to Write the Foreword to Her New Book

palinwink.jpg
You Betchya Sarah Palin wrote the forward to Jan Brewer's new book!
As we reported earlier this year, Governor Jan Brewer has written a book. Well, she had someone ghost-write a book on her behalf that's scheduled to be released November 1.

As we noted in our previous report, Jan's new book wasn't just written by a ghost-writer, it was written by a Sarah Palin-sympathizing ghost-writer/old high school basketball pal -- so it shouldn't come as a shock that the foreword to the book was written by Palin herself, because Brewer apparently "couldn't think of anyone better."

Jan's not necessarily known for her ability to think, so when considering potential scribes for the foreword to her book, it makes sense that she couldn't think of anyone better than the former Alaska governor.

Warren Jeffs and Polygamist Henchmen Subject of Fine New Book

We remember Debra Weyermann from our long-ago days trolling for stories for the Sierra Vista and Bisbee dailies down at the Mexican border. She was known as "D" in those days when she covered the courts for the Arizona Daily Star, and did a bang-up job.

Kick-ass book by veteran journalist
Fast-forward to now: Weyermann's newly published book, Answer Them Nothing, Bringing Down the Polygamous Empire of Warren Jeffs is a worthy read, even if you already know the outlines of the creepy tale of incest, rape, greed, power, and religious fanaticism..

Weyermann writes crisply and occasionally poetically and is at her best when recounting the chilling anecdotal accounts of heroic characters such as Ruth Stubbs, a young woman who finally escaped from the bizarre cult after enduring a nightmarish existence under the tyrannical leadership of now-imprisoned "prophet" Jeffs.

We were especially pleased by the extensive (and well-deserved) credit that Weyermann gives to our friend and former colleague John "The Senator" Dougherty, who broke the FLDS scandal wide-open in this paper.

Briston Palin coddles baby Tripp on the cover
Short-lived Arizona resident Bristol Palin puts her baby daddy, Levi Johnston, and the family of her mother's one-time running mate, Senator John McCain, on blast in her new memoir Not Afraid Of Life: My Journey So Far.

The book, set to come out Friday, bad-mouths McCain's wife, Cindy, and daughter, Meghan, characterizing the duo as paranoid and often overbearing.

In the book, portions of which can be found on the Amazon website, Palin writes that she "had a sneaking suspicion I might need to watch my back" when dealing with the McCain women and that Cindy and Meghan gave her a pompous cold shoulder upon their first meeting.

"Every time we saw Meghan, she seemed to be constantly checking us out, comparing my family to hers and complaining," Palin writes. "Oh the complaining."

She also claims Cindy "held herself like royalty" and demanded to be the godmother of her 2-year-old son and one of the first to hold him after his birth.

Palin then turned her malicious pen on her ex-fiancée, lambasting him for his inability to keep it in his pants.

Diane Tvert is a self-described "child of the '70's," so when her son wrote a 192-page book about why weed is safer than alcohol that has found itself on best-seller lists, she was quick to give him a ringing endorsement.

"My mom is totally on board," Mason Tvert, author of the latest pro-marijuana scroll Marijuana is Safer: Why Are We Driving People to Drink tells New Times

Tvert, 27, is one of the latest messiahs in the crusade to legalize marijuana, and while he's taken his fight to the weed-friendly streets of Denver, the battle began here in the Valley.

where men win glory cover.jpg
The Pat Tillman Foundation is putting on a benefit on October 3 featuring author Jon Krakauer, who's got a new book out on the former Cardinals' player.

Krakauer is perhaps best known for his gripping account of tragedy on Mount Everest in 1996, Into Thin Air. As awesome as that book was, we enjoyed Into the Wild and Eiger Dreams even more. His book on Mormons, Under the Banner of Heaven, departed from his adventure theme yet had its own pleasures. Krakauer's simply a hell of a writer and we'll read this new one about Tillman, Where Men Win Glory, at some point.
