Sun City West resident Tara Rothlisberg will be on probation for a few years for her techniques as a "caregiver," which included keeping her elderly uncle chained to a bed.

That was only discovered after an employee of a solar-panel company went to the home for a scheduled appointment, and it smelled so bad from the outside that he thought an elderly person could have died inside the home.

A 22-year-old mentally disabled man is dead after sustaining at least a dozen injuries, allegedly at the hands of family members.

Joshua and Carlena Pinkerton, the man's brother-in-law and sister, brought him to the hospital Friday after he collapsed in the bathtub, and a doctor called Phoenix police after noticing bruising, scrapes, puncture wounds, an infected wound, dehydration, and low body temperature and body weight.

The man ended up dying, and an autopsy revealed more injuries, including a dislocated shoulder, a puncture in his arm, a possible broken nose, several bone fractures, a bruised testicle, injuries inside of his mouth, and a flesh-eating virus.

A Sun City West woman was charged with child abuse after Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies found a 14-year-old kid living in a house littered with the feces of more than a dozen dogs and cats.

That was only after deputies found an 87-year-old man handcuffed to a bed, who was "wearing a diaper that appeared not to have been changed for a very long time," the Sheriff's Office says.

Tara Ann Bergland-Haugo von Rothlisberg, 56, was running that household, the MCSO says.

Jeffery Hendershott "Wins" Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Mugshot of the Day Contest

It was a close one, but Jeffery Hendershott won out on Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Mugshot of the Day.

The 29-year-old son of Arpaio's fired chief deputy, David Hendershott, beat accused probation violator Carla Atkins for the honor, seemingly proving that no favoritism exists on Arpaio's automated, online version of a public stockade.

(That said, we still question why Hendershott's name wouldn't come up on the site with a direct name search, and instead could first be found only by scanning through the mugshots of DUI suspects...)

The younger Hendershott, who was briefly employed by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office in 2005, was booked into the county jail temporarily after being arrested earlier this week on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run.

Jeffery Hendershott in Close Race With Probation Violator for Sheriff Arpaio's Mugshot of the Day Contest

The mugshot of Jeffery Hendershott, son of former MCSO chief deputy David Hendershott, is getting lots of votes. But someone out there is pulling hard for Carla Atkins to win...

Jeffery Hendershott, who was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run and DUI two days ago, is in a close race with an alleged probation violator for Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Mugshot of the Day contest.

Someone out there seems to really want Carla Atkins, a 43-year-old blonde, to win. She's been staying ahead of the son of Arpaio's former chief deputy, David Hendershott, all day. But it's somewhat of a horse race on the "M.O.D. Leader Board" as these two go nearly neck-and-neck.

Click here to access Arpaio's site and cast your vote for the best of the accused.

We noticed again today that typing in Hendershott's name in the mugshot search field still doesn't bring up his mugshot, even though every other top contender for best mug is easily found with a name search. That's a heck of a coincidence, if it's a computer glitch.

Jeffery Hendershott Among Employees in Alleged Nepotism Scheme by Father, Former MCSO Chief Deputy Dave Hendershott

Jeffery Hendershott, who was arrested yesterday on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run, was among several friends and family members hired by MCSO at the request of former Chief Deputy David Hendershott, according to an investigative report.

Jeffery Hendershott, the son of former Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy David Hendershott, was among several people named in a recent probe of questionable hiring practices at the office.

Hendershott, a 29-year-old who was arrested yesterday on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run, worked for the sheriff's office as a communications dispatcher for about a year starting in 2005. He was one of eight family members or friends of David Hendershott who were hired at the request of the former chief deputy, according to an investigative report.

The allegation of nepotism were made by MCSO Deputy Chief Frank Munnell in his well-publicized memo and investigated by the Pinal County Sheriff's Office at the request of Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Loretta Barkell, former MCSO chief financial officer, told investigators that it was common to refer to the hires as "FODs," or "Friends of Dave."

Jeffery Hendershott, 29, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run. He's the son of David Hendershott, the disgraced former chief deputy under Sheriff Joe Arpaio who was fired in April.
Jeffery Hendershott, son of former Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy David Hendershott, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run.

Thanks to Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Mugshot of the Day program, you can vote to make Hendershott's kid's picture No. 1 on the MCSO Web site. (For some reason, though, typing in Hendershott's name doesn't bring up the mugshot. If you want to vote, click here to access the MCSO mug shot page, then click on the "DUI" category and scroll down to find Hendershott's picture.)

Channel 5 News (KPHO-TV) was the first to report this morning that Phoenix police arrested Hendershott, but no further details have been released. We put in a call with Phoenix PD to find out what happened, and we'll update you later.

UPDATE: Hendershott's vehicle collided with another car near 27th Avenue and the Loop 101 yesterday morning, says Phoenix police Sergeant Tommy Thompson.

No injuries were reported, Thompson says, but Hendershott drove away from the scene and was arrested soon after at another location. Thompson did not immediately have details about how Hendershott was caught, his alleged BAC or other details.

DPS Chief's Son, Also Named Robert Halliday, in Child Support Squabble; Arrest Warrant Quashed This Week

Robert Halliday, director of the Arizona Department of Public Safety, might have seen his own son's name on a list of bench warrants in the past week.
The son of the director of the Arizona Department of Public Safety avoided being arrested this week by making a child support payment.

Court records show that a bench warrant was issued for Robert Halliday, 31, (who shares the name of his veteran cop dad,) after he failed to appear for a telephone meeting last week with the mother of two of his children. The warrant was quashed this week after Halliday paid $5,000.

This was the third time a warrant has been issued for his arrest in the long-running struggle to get him to pay child support to the mother, Tamura Caskey of Pennsylvania, records indicate.

Halliday's had a bit of a troubled past, having been convicted of solicitation to commit aggravated assault in 2001 and criminal damage in 1998.
