Poll: Republican Nominee Doug Ducey Enters Gov's Race Tied With Democrat Fred DuVal

On Election Night, Public Policy Polling released a survey of Arizona voters revealing that a general election race between Republican gubernatorial nominee Doug Ducey and the Democrats' Fred DuVal would be even matched -- at least in the beginning.

It gives hope to Democrats trying to gain leverage in a very Republican-leaning Arizona.

DuVal and Ducey each received a nod from 35 percent of the 588 likely voters polled. Libertarian Barry Hess received 12 percent of the vote.

Pollsters with Public Policy, which conducted the survey on August 24 and 25, say Hess' "high level of support reflects the unusual amounts of support we're finding for third party candidates across the country right now as voters are unhappy with both parties."

But Democrats have a good shot at this top office in November, pollsters say.

"Democrats have an opportunity in Arizona because voters are unhappy with Governor [Jan] Brewer and the current direction of the state," wrote Tom Jensen, Public Policy Polling director, in memo released yesterday along with the poll. "Only 41 percent of voters see Brewer favorably to 47 percent who have an unfavorable opinion of her. And there's a general feeling that the state is on the wrong track -- 59 percent of voters express that sentiment to only 30 percent who think the state is headed in the right direction under its current Republican leadership."

Full polling results here.

The poll notes that DuVal "remains largely undefined with 60 percent of voters having no opinion about him and those who do have one pretty evenly split."

According to the survey, just 26 percent of voters have a favorable opinion of Ducey, compared to 41 percent who have a negative opinion of him.

By comparison, DuVal remains largely unknown entity with 60 percent of voters having no opinion about him, and those who do have one are split.

Watch DuVal's first campaign ad, which features Republican Grant Woods, Arizona's former attorney general.

You freaking loopy liberal loons are a hoot.

There is a hand full of you who keep posting the same bigoted shit over and over and over.  Then you agree with each other which, in your twisted little minds, validates your hysteria.  Next, you begin believing everyone thinks like you do.

Jazus!  You people are pathetic!

If elected Governor Douchie will most likely pardon his best friend, and co-worker Chris Simcox the Minute Man leader, and Child Molesting rising star of the Racist G.O.P.

This message is endorsed by Simcox's other best buds convicted racist Sheriff Arpaio, and G.O.P. President  Racist Nazi hugger Pearce.

To: The crowd you hang with Douchie?!

"Fred DuVal, Problem Solver." To this voter, he came out of nowhere. I had never heard of him before a couple of months ago. He still is a cypher. That polling of 588 Zoners is completely meaningless. I could Google the guy, but I'm not going to. I'll leave it up to him to make himself better known and tell us what his policies and legislative goals are if he's elected governor. His lack of name recognition is going to make getting elected to the highest state office a very tough row to hoe. Obviously we know a lot more about the ice cream man. So, Mr DuVal, you'd better get out there a do some campaigning beginning right now.

Actually Gary, republicans have destroyed this country. That's proven by the fact that there have been 18 Republican presidents versus 13 Democratic presidents.

BTW, Andrew Jackson paid off the entire national debt in 1835. He was a Dem.

Woodrow Wilson and FDR saved the world, twice. Both were Democrats.

Anything else?

Repubs are just as good at that. G.W. Bush destroyed a country... Iraq!

@eric.nelson745 Fred DuVal's father founded and led the medical school at the U of A and Fred graduated from Tucson High School and was a Luce Scholar at Occidental College in Los Angeles.

Fred returned to Arizona after graduation and worked for Governor Bruce Babbitt on the teams that developed our state's groundwater laws, crafted our cost-effective Medicaid system, and set record levels for education funding.  Fred was a senior adviser in the Clinton White House, the last time our national economy was on sound footing.  His first job was Deputy Director of Protocol for the State Department and later was appointed Deputy Director of Intergovernmental Affairs, making him responsible for the policy relationship between the federal government and all 50 states—governors, mayors, county officials and American Indian tribes.

Fred runs a renewable resources consulting company and has worked with T. Boone Pickens on the Pickens Plan to reduce our nation's dependence on foreign energy sources.  He is a member of the Arizona Board of Regents and developed the system whereby community colleges and universities in our state have joint enrollment, saving money for students.

He served a term as Treasurer of the Democratic Governors Association and was one of the original founders of the centrist Democratic Leadership Council.

Get to know Fred.

@eric.nelson745 Are you at all suggesting that Scoop Ducey could be a sane choice for governor?

Sorry dogbit- chickenshit, I'm not Republican.  (I think that is what you were trying to say.  Hard to tell since you are too fucking stupid to know how to spell it.)

@Jukes

Eric said it was up to JEWvall to make himself known. If he can't do that then his past experiences as a child of privilege mean nothing. Ducey is the working man's candidate

Oh, you're just an idiot, then. And a Ducey-bag. That settles it. Spell what, moron?.

Jukes

@useyourname @Jukes I have no idea what Mr. DuVal's religion is.  It's not a question I usually ask about a politician.  I have no interest in how, or even if, office holders worship as long as they are not trying to infuse their personal faith into their policy positions, which happens, unfortunately, all too often.  I think it's abhorrent that you would use the term you used for Mr. DuVal because I can't think of any reason for you to go there except to be anti-Semitic.

Ducey is a dirt poor businessman. He couldn't run a company. How the fuck can you expect him to run a state use your name?

Proof = Corrupt convicted racist Sheriff Arpaio already endorsed him.

Wow dogbit, I guess if you read it in the ultra liberal NewTimes, it has to be true, huh?

Kind of proves my point, nimrod.

I am truly impressed that you conquered the 1st grade cut and paste maneuver.  Difficult task for a stupid fucking liberal.
