Christine Jones Accepts Global Warming, and Really Admires Hillary Clinton

Thumbnail image for FeatheredBastard_RESIZE_VF.jpg

GOP gubernatorial hopeful Christine Jones held a tele-town hall Monday night to address criticisms being leveled at her campaign from fellow Republicans.

She deserves points for the effort, though with National Review Online digging up an old Facebook post of hers from 2012, encouraging people to "get excited" about Obama's re-election, and a recent gaffe during an interview with Fox 10 where she said she often shoots her gun "with my eyes closed," she may need more tele-town halls before the primary's over.

One a week might be about right, the way she's going.

Christine_Jones500.JPG
Jones at a recent campaign event: They're probably not talking about Hillary...

During Monday's phone-in session with the public, Jones answered questions about her not being an Air Force vet (a stint in ROTC ain't the same thing, you see), her 2004, BAC .102 DUI (which she downplayed, natch), her praise for GOP bete noir Hillary Clinton, and so on.

An issue I haven't seen mentioned anywhere is Jones' apparent acceptance of global warming as a reality, a position regarded as heresy in Republican ranks.

And yet, in Jones' old blog therudysyndrome.com, she embraces the concept, kinda-sorta.

One feature of the blog is Jones' yearly predictions. In January 2013, this included one about climate change.

"And evidence of global warming will continue to mount," she wrote, "regardless of the insistence by some that, despite all scientific evidence to the contrary, global warming is pure fiction."

A year later, assessing this prediction in light of having already announced plans to run for governor, Jones attempted to extend and revise her remarks, while still ranking her prediction "true."

Like so,

TRUE. Evidence that the average temperature of the atmosphere is warmer now than it was several decades ago is now relatively easy to find. However, and this is and was the point of this whole prediction: none of that really matters. Indeed, the most important thing to note is that the earth is warmer now than it was in the 1950s. And, there is not much humans can do to change it. We must stop arguing about an undisputed fact (i.e., the temperature is up a few degrees on average) and start refocusing the discussion on the real heart of the matter.

That is, even if we shut down every factory, stopped driving every car, turned off every light, and disabled every coal generating plant, we probably still wouldn't change the temperature of the earth's atmosphere even a fraction of one degree. The temptation to focus on a non-issue for political expediency can be overwhelming to career politicians. Those of us who are not should insist that we keep our eye on the ball and not waste time arguing about a simple number on a thermometer. Keep the earth clean, don't waste natural resources, don't unnecessarily create pollution, be responsible, contributing citizens and members of society. But, don't waste time, energy, money, or effort pretending we will change the earth. It was here long before we got here, and it will be here long after we're gone.

Translation: "Um, never mind."

Jones' spokeswoman Anna Haberlein did her best to put her boss' blogging into perspective.

"Many of these predictions weren't necessarily what she wanted to happen," she told me, "but rather what she thought could happen."

Problem is, she's one of the saner Republican candidates. Or, perhaps it would be more accurate to say, "closer to sane?" Damn, what a line-up.

I really hope not, she will throw us to the wolves and blame Obama. the fact that she wants to "send the bill to Obama" is ridiculous.then we are just stuck with the bill. no good hopefuls in the Republican arena.

The true Republicans need to take their party back. They've allowed the Screaming Weenies to buy them out. We don't need screeching bimbos (or him-bos) like Jones,  Yee, Herrod, Thomas, Franks, Ducey, Arpaio, Babeau or Cavavagh and thieves like Pearce, Cardon, Horne, Hoskins, etc... to shape the future of Arizona.

At least we don't have to claim Palin or Bachmann...

I don't think we need a repulsive, hatchet-faced scarecrow as governor two times in a row. But then again this is Arizona, a state which has an inexplicable propensity for electing the most loathsome, bottom-dwelling scumbags to public office. Exhibit A: state legislature. Exhibit B: Any elected official in Maricopa county.

No, for a few reasons, one you apparently can't be positive about the president to be the GOP nominee anywhere or believe in global warming. And she'd lose a general because most Arizonans and rational people know you shouldn't shoot a gun with your eyes closed. If you lack common sense why should you be our governor?

LucyBabeu

I Knew there was reason Christine Jones and Paul Babeu were just alike and got along so well. They both like shooting with their eyes closed.  Now, I know the reason Paul always denies all the boys he has slept with- his eyes are always closed when his 7 inch goes off.......... This explains everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jones-Palin will win, as our clown sheriff endorsed the IceCream man today, as Arpaio's endorsement has been the "kiss of death" in the last few elections.  I love that Joke is also endorsing HornieBoi though!

Arizona has a huge "die hard" elderly community. They flock here from all over the country from states like Ohio, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan to escape their shitty cold weather environments. Now convincing them that global warming is a bad thing is kinda hard to do considering they are here for the heat "like snakes" because they are all cold blooded Republicans. They come they vote and they go home. We even have a city that has an age limit, you have to be over 45 to live there, it's called Sun City. A name that a bunch of snake Republicans obviously dreamed up, to glorify their annual winter migration.

@ConcernedCitizenAZ Concerned has sure got that right.  Except 75 years for non-violent stuff is a gross understatement.  Robert Berger was sentenced to 200 years (yes, two hundred) for LOOKING at kiddie porn.

Not doing it, not raping a child, just looking at a picture. Kind of slimy, but 200 years??  We Arizona taxpayers are currently paying around $40,000 a year to keep in prison  Plus all the costs of the prosecution and subsequent appeals.  Plus we lose the tax revenue he would have generated. The guy was gainfully employed before the knock on the door.

The dumb law will cost us well over a million dollars before Berger dies.

Talk about shira law; we've got our own version right here in Arizona.

@WhoKnows Are you saying we had might as well get used to gazing upon Jones-Palin's shriveled mug for the next 4.5 years? Ya know, if I woke up next to her one morning, I'd be so shocked that I'd give up women. No, wait. I already did. But you get my point. So, is there anything we can do to stave off the coming catastrophe? Will Sand Land be the butt of jokes for the next half-decade? Is another iteration of GED Jan inevitable? Can't we do something? I could almost cry.

@ConcernedCitizenAZ @wherewasi You are correct. Bill Montgomery is also a screaming weenie. During the last election cycle, he said "if you don't like me, vote for someone else".  He had no Democratic opponent. He thought he was being cute. I voted for "someone else" - Libertarian Michael Kielsky, as did about 30 percent of the voting public. What does that say about Billy's popularity?

I think it speaks volumes, and I look forward to ridding Maricopa County of Arpaio and Montgomery in 2016.

I have never encountered anybody else who was so completely ignorant about partisan politics as to believe that anybody who routinely votes for Republicans must actually be a Republican, whether they "admit it" or not.

In order to be a Republican, you must be registered as a Republican.  It's not an ideology, it's a membership.

They may be conservatives.  Some may even belong to Tea Party movements.  Neither of those makes them "Republicans" if they're not registered as Republicans.

I know that I'm wasting my time trying to educate you, but if you're so eager to embarrass yourself publicly like this, I'm willing to help you out.
