Someone has planted foot-long pieces of rebar fashioned into spikes in the Coconino National Forest.

Forest Service officials say five of these spikes have been discovered near the Happy Jack area.

Mogollon Rim District Ranger Linda Wadleigh says the pointed ends actually had been painted to blend in with the ground.

The spikes were responsible for blowing out eight tires over the weekend, according to officials. The five spikes that were discovered were in areas often used by people driving off-highway vehicles.

There haven't been any reported injuries to people or wildlife, but the concern is there. The Forest Service is asking for tips from the public in the case.

check for weed nearby.  I grew up in a rural area and our property was 40 acres, 38 of which were wild growth forest.  when you find nails, broken glass, spikes or things like that, it's usually indicative of a small level marijuana growing operation.  The obstacles are to prevent animals and hikers from approaching the plants

"The big car glided forward with murmurous motor, wheels crunching tin

cans and plastic picnic plates on the berm, packed bearings sliding in the

servile grease, the pistons, bathed in oil, slipping up and down in the firm

but gentle grasp of cylinders, connecting rods to crankshaft, crankshaft to

drive shaft through differential's scrotal housing via axle, all power to the

wheels.

They progressed. That is to say, they advanced, in thoughtful silence,

toward the jittery neon, the spastic anapestic rock, the apoplectic roll of

Saturday night in Albuquerque, New Mexico. (To be an American for one

Saturday night downtown you'd sell your immortal soul.) Down Glassy

Gulch they drove toward the twenty-story towers of finance burning like

blocks of radium under the illuminated smog."

To a loopy loony lefty liberal, the end always justifies the means.

If ninnies like you want full control over a piece of property, buy it.

How come you loopy liberals are always trying to tell others how to act?

@chris1960 @fishingblues You sound well educated Chris1960... I really hope 1960 isn't the year you were born. If so its pretty obvious you have led an underachieving life full of insecurity.

@fishingblues my dad is as conservative as you can get.

there used to be train tracks behind my family house out in the country but they pulled the tracks leaving a trail.

This trail was loved by folks who rode motorcycles (albeit illegally) and 3 wheelers and that noise drove my dad nuts.

you better believe he built up things across that trail to make folks crash.

@fishingblues @teknik we did not own the land the track ran on, rather our yard bordered it.  that land was owned by the state.
