Jan Brewer Endorses Tom Horne's Primary Opponent, Mark Brnovich

Mark Brnovich.

Every day seems to be a bad news day lately for Attorney General Tom Horne.

Yesterday, it was that Horne's going to be investigated for allegations that he had employees doing his campaign work on state time. Today, it's Governor Jan Brewer endorsing Horne's opponent in the Republican primary, Mark Brnovich.

-Investigators Find "Reasonable Cause" That Tom Horne Violated Campaign Laws

(FYI, Lemons is on vacation.)

Brewer was the one who appointed Brnovich to the state's gaming department in 2009, but that really doesn't make her endorsement of him any less surprising -- it's not a common move for a governor to endorse a primary challenger of an office-holder of their own party. For example, she stayed behind Senator John McCain when he was facing a primary challenge from the right by J.D. Hayworth.

It's not difficult to understand why Brewer would back Brnovich over Horne, given Horne's scandal after scandal . . . after scandal, after scandal. But it's still surprising to see her wade into the battle.

Conflict of interest? A top prosecutor with a wife who is a Maricopa County Superior Court judge? How is that supposed to work when the Appeals have the AG's name on it, after getting convicted and sentenced in the Superior Court?

Does it matter? They're all Republicans and run in the same circle of corrupt politicians.

Bottom line is the state Republican party wants to keep one of their party in the state AG office. Horne is paid for and no longer of value. He just barely beat Rotellini in the last election and with the continuing rubbish over the past several years there is no way in hell he can beat her again. Mrs. Brewer is trying to get folks to vote for Brnovich in the primary, hoping he can beat Rotellini in the general election in November. I'm an Independent (former Republican) and will vote for Mr. Horne in the primary. Makes the best sense for everybody. It appears with Brnovich all we would get would get would be a less wrinkled, male version, of Mrs. Brewer as state AG.

We've had enough of Mr. Horne and Mrs. Brewer. We don't need to make the same mistake by considering Brnovich.

I wonder if there is a campaign finance angle that would lead to Horne continuing his election effort. It has to be clear he will lose.

Lost in the blog ... A win for the private prison profiteers marching onward in the mass incarceration of Arizona's people. A state that values incarceration over education of its people.

CCA (Concentration Camps of America) "Posters calling for Dennis DeConcini to resign from the Corrections Corporation of America board hang near a protest during the Arizona Board of Regents Meeting Dec. 6, 2012. DeConcini is also a member of the Board of Regents.

About a dozen protesters continuously interrupted Thursday’s meeting of the Arizona Board of Regentswith outbursts criticizing regents Dennis DeConcini and Anne Mariucci for their ties to a private prison company. Both regents sit on the board of directors for the Corrections Corporation of America.Download as MP3This was not the first time members of the audience asked for DeConcini and Mariucci to leave CCA.In the past, protesters have stated their case one by one during the call to the audience portion of Arizona Board of Regents meetings. This time, however, University of Arizona students and community members stood up on chairs and yelled out in the middle of a presentation. Others chanted “CCA Go Away” and were escorted out.“We weren’t given much of a choice,” said Caroline Isaacs with American Friends Service Committee. “We were ordered to choose one spokesperson and that we would be forbidden for giving any more testimony than having one person speak."

Although I think it's a big deal the Republican Governor didn't endorse a sitting Republican AG...I'm not sure endorsing a Goldwater Institute devotee is such a good idea.

Brewer must be part of the liberal Phoenix media who have vendettas against Horne.

Ok, now I know FOR SURE Rotellini has this shit in the bag.

HorniBoi DID violate election and campaign finance laws. The Republican SOS says so.

An unpopular drunk puppet endorsing HorniBoi's opponent.

I can't wait to read JAFfy's hilarious response to this. I think I'm gonna have some bourbon in celebration.

Ok, so if Russ Pearce and Joe Arpaio both endorse Andy Thomas, which of the three would be the largest scum sucking moron?

I'm SURE Valley Native can tell us!

it may not speak too well for Brnovich, carrying Brewers endorsement, but it does actually speak well for Brewer, NOT endorsing Horne

who would have seen that one coming?

I'm with Cozz on this one.

It appears that Brnovich is willing to be a slut for Mrs. Brewer. His true colors are starting to show....

Not a chance in hell that I will vote for him.

Tom, you know you're in trouble when the Brew Crew kicks you to the curb. If I were you, I would not just consider dropping out of the race but resigning forthwith in order to help prepare your defense. You do know that you'll be held to account for your many misdeeds, right? Tom?

@TommyCollins A Case Study on CCA’s Web of Influence in Arizona: Mark Brnovich

http://www.prwatch.org/news/2013/09/12251/case-study-cca%E2%80%99s-web-influence-arizona-mark-brnovich

"What is less well known are Brnovitch's ties to Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), a for-profit prison corporation that is very influential in Arizona and that has benefited financially from its close ties to the government.

The CCA Man

According to statements of financial disclosure filed with the Office of the Arizona Secretary of State Division of Elections by Brnovich's wife, former Maricopa County Superior Court Commissioner and current Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Susan Brnovich, Mark Brnovich served as a "senior director of business development" for CCA during the course of 2005, 2006 and 2007. CCA was not Brnovich's sole source of employment during at least part of this time. He also worked as a federal prosecutor while working for or on behalf of CCA during part of this time, according to the financial disclosure forms of his wife."

@danzigsdaddy She is just playing politics and the writing is on the wall as far as Horne is concerned, even if he refuses to understand it himself

She didn't make this decision, her political handler did and only for political reasons - protecting Jan's future money skimming capability .... oh sorry, protecting Jans future political career.

@eric.nelson745 The only thing stopping from taking Horne to court is someone who can figure out how to turn this to their political advantage and bury it.  AKA, the "Arpaio Method of Investigation".

Interesting stuff, CC. I think I've seen this information previously, perhaps in one of your posts. I don't see Brnovich as being healthy for the state. We currently have a concubine in the AG office, no need to repeat it.

@TommyCollins @ConcernedCitizenAZ When incarceration is favored over education of the people, then its never healthy for the people, the state or society. A state run by prosecutors (convict -at-all-costs)/elected politicians should be a red flag for all voters. Half the state (the system) is controlling the "other" half. Wake up folks!

Lol Thomas would be doing us all a favor by withdrawing from the governor's race.

Arpaio hopefully will be booted out in 2016.

@MaskedMagician1967 I believe she was driving a white Cad in 1988 when she rear ended the van while perhaps under the influence. The one where she told the DPS officer someone had bumped her from behind (not a pretty picture, I'm sure) and knocked her car into the van. There was no damage to the rear and the dust had not been disturbed.
