DUI task forces around the state arrested 389 people on DUI charges over Independence Day weekend.

That's pretty much on-par with the DUI enforcement over the same weekend last year, when 361 people were arrested on DUI charges, according to the Governor's Office of Highway Safety.

There were more than 1,600 police officers participating in these task forces statewide, and they reported pulling over a similar number of sober designated drivers (354) as they did allegedly drunk drivers (389).

More citations were given out than just DUIs, including tickets for criminal speeding, seat belt or child-restraint violations, aggressive driving, and plain ol' speeding tickets -- more than 1,400 of those.

Of the major holiday DUI enforcement operations so far this year, Independence Day had the fewest drunk drivers caught by police.

Cinco de Mayo weekend leads this year with 500 DUI arrests statewide, followed by 495 on Memorial Day weekend, and 413 over St. Patrick's Day weekend.

Looks like they list the total number of stops and then designate the Sober Designated Drivers Contacted into their own category. Doesn't necessarily mean that only 734 drivers were tested, all of them could have been tested but only so many were drunk and so many claimed to be Sober DD's. It isn't that clear but you are just scrutinizing the data looking for something to be inaccurate. Chill out bud.

If there was a nearly  equal number of sober and drunken drivers of 354+389 it means that there were 743 drivers stopped.

However the chart above says there were 8,190 traffic stops and 1400 speeding tickets.

Does that mean they only tested 734 of the 8,190 drivers or am I missing something here?

Or does that mean there were 734 cars with drunk people in them but 354 drunks had a sober driver?

on that note do they test all passengers?

bad data is bad.

Unless they screw with the numbers, the majority usually tops the charts.

@teknik you need to inquire with the Governor's Office of Highway Safety I am sure they can provide you with all of the nitty-gritty details of the data with you and then you can come here and post your findings #dosomething
