U.S. Customs and Border Protection finally allowed reporters to tour the facilities that have been designated for processing the sudden surge of children from Central America showing up at the U.S. border.

There had been reports early on that these facilities were completely unprepared to have suitable conditions for the children, but many of those problems appear to have been rectified.

Local Reverend Jarrett Maupin II went on a tour in the facility in Nogales with other clergy last week, and was not impressed with the conditions. He told us that it was evident that the children hadn't showered in days, and although showers had just recently arrived at the facility, the water wasn't connected.

He also described the facility as very hot, and described the fenced-in pens the children were being held in.

Maupin said this tent was identified as a sort of makeshift playground.

You can see Maupin explain the conditions to Fox News' Megyn Kelly in the video below:

Reporters had been denied access to the facility when Maupin got his tour, leading Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake to call on Customs and Border Protection to allow media tours.

Finally, on Tuesday of this week, a CBP spokesman e-mailed details of a media tour, in which recording devices were banned, no questions were allowed during the tour, and reporters were barred from interacting with staff and children at the facility.

The Tucson-based Arizona Daily Star described the physical conditions yesterday as not that bad, but reported that many of the children "appeared sad."

"Even though they get fed six times a day, have stuffed animals and soccer balls to play with and books to read, the youths are still in detention, and the feeling is apparent when you walk in," the Star report says.

What a disaster.  Every verified citizen of Guate, Salvador, and Honduras should have an invoice printed for their costs and the bills sent to their worthless govts.  Then the deportations.  Screw DACA, screw BarebacKKK and screw Eric Holder.

I can't believe that Jared Maupin went on Faux News. You'd have to drug me to appear on that official organ of Tea Party propaganda. Anyway, it appears that ICE is working as hard as it can to upgrade those facilities to more or less acceptable conditions. It's a good thing they are letting media in. Maybe that will make it harder for the extreme right-wing tinfoil-hat wearing moon howlers in our midst to make a case for impeaching Obama.

@eric.nelson745 This is their mission, their main reason to take the Senate this year, so they will have both houses of Congress in order to impeach President Obama.

@eric.nelson745 It won't, since they (TP'ers/right wingnuts) don't care if there actually is a problem or not or if it's actually being addressed, these people and this situation are just pawns to them to be used for the TP's own selfish expression of bigotry and attention whoring.

@66rock @eric.nelson745 'Course, you remember from junior high civics class that the House indicts (they vote "Articles of Impeachment") and a trial is held in the Senate. House members are the prosecutors. Senate members vote to convict. The Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court acts as the judge. But Obama ain't goin' no place. A two-thirds majority of senators is required to remove him from office. Even if Teathuglicans take the Senate, they will not have a two-thirds majority. Now, if Obama is removed from office, Joe Biden would automatically become prez. That would not be a good thing for Teathuglicans. He is not cool, calm and collected like Obama. He is a street fighter from way back. He would terrorize the hell out of the Teathuglicans. They'd be sorry they ever started the whole mess.

@Flyer9753

These people are being used as pawns by the Obama administration and ICE, to punish Arizona for having the gaul to stand up to the federal government.

ICE doesn't even bother to deny that fact.

@eric.nelson745  i have family on both sides of the political fence, from what i have heard them saying, neither side would be too comfortable with Biden sitting in that office

@eric.nelson745 Yes,and good point. I didn't even think about them having to deal with Joe but I think it wouldn't matter to them as long as they can shame President Obama which is their only goal now. Sorta be fun to see Joe deal with them, ha!! The teathugs aren't too smart and all nut
