Tom Horne Tailspin: Poll Shows Horne One Point Behind Mark Brnovich, Horne Aide Garrett Archer Resigns

Guess who's having the worst week ever?

Add to Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne's many woes -- including dueling scandals, local and federal law enforcement probes, and a $400K ad buy by a conservative group demanding his resignation -- a poll of likely GOP voters, showing Horne trailing his primary challenger, former state gaming director Mark Brnovich, by one point.

Granted the poll, done by Magellan Strategies on behalf of the group Conservative Leadership for Arizona, also shows that 35 percent of those voters are undecided.

Still, as an incumbent who has done his best to placate the far right, Horne should be way ahead of Brnovich in any poll imaginable, if he were not up to his ears in controversy.

The poll reveals that Horne has 94 percent name ID. Forty-nine percent of respondents have a negative view of the guy.

In other words, Rs know Horne all too well.

(BTW, CLA is backing Doug Ducey in the Arizona Republican primary for governor. Guess who leads the gubernatorial pack in this poll? If you picked Ducey, collect your fruit basket at the door.)

In other news, the Arizona Republic reports that AG staffer Garrett Archer, named in a sworn affidavit by ex-AG staffer Sarah Beattie as doing campaign work on state time, has resigned his post as a policy analyst with the AG's office.

Horne looks like he needs an infusion of embalming fluid

Horne's spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham denied Archer's departure was connected to the latest scandal.

"Garrett leaving has been in the works for 6 weeks now, as he and his wife are expecting their first baby," she wrote. "He is going to do independent consulting so that he has the flexibility to work from home and prepare for the baby. This has zero to do with the latest claims by Beattie."

Grisham said Archer had given her permission to speak on his behalf. She also denied rumors that Archer had been talking to the FBI.

Horne didn't do himself any favors yesterday by going on the "attack" against Beattie and Yavapai County Attorney Sheila Polk, who reinstated her order that Horne and outreach director Kathleen Winn pay back $400,000 in campaign contributions.

(Note: The Polk news didn't break till late in the day on the 14th. Magellan states that interviews for the poll were done on May 13 and 14.)

Horne, jonesing for a dirt nap

Appearing on various TV news outlets, Horne looked like death warmed over, dodged questions about once having his mistress on the payroll, and occasionally lapsed into silence.

Reminiscent of Captain Queeg in The Caine Mutiny. All Horne needed were ball bearings to play with.

Will Horne last through the primary? Sheesh, I'm not sure he'll last through this weekend.

Why would anyone with an ounce of morals, or integrity be associated in any way shape or form with Arizona's vast Political cesspool of corruption?!

Any Idea's G.O.P. Governor Brewer, (Social Security Fraud), Sheriff Arpaio (Massive M.C.S.O. Corruption, and Racism), G.O.P.  President Pearce (Bribe taking, Racism, and  Election rigging/manipulating) Tom Horne (Hit, and Run, Adultery, and Corruption.), ect. ect. the list goes on and when these crooked assholes are not prosecuted they keep poping up like a bad case of acne. (they even try to run for Governor after being only disbarred!) right Andrew Arpaio's County Attorney  butt monkey?!

To: Justice in corrupt as hell Arizona.

Really surprised that nobody noticed Horne came in 3rd in a 2 man race. Undecided came in 1st (which really doesn't look good for either of them)

It's going to take a landmark lawsuit to really make change here in Arizona. To stop the ' UNBELiEVABLE ECROACHMENT' on basic American rights. By both the media and State politicians.Rights that our fathers fought and died for.And mind, you still are.

"He is going to do independent consulting so that he has the flexibility to work from home and prepare for the baby....."

Well, of course he is.

He gave up a good paying job, sucking off the state teat, with full benefits and perks, to stay home and do political consulting, with no benefits or insurance (unless he pays for Cobra or his wife has coverage), so that he can prepare for the arrival of his child. Well, that should take fifteen or twenty minutes each day, right?

Please, Ms. Grisham, don't bore your adoring public with the sheer stupidity of such a statement. You, and perhaps Mr. Horne, are probably the only people who might actually believe such garbage flowing from your lips (or computer, as the case may be).

The truth may be that he resigned and is now cooperating with the investigation, seeking immunity from prosecution, so that he won't be in jail or prison when that child is born.

Gee, Stephanie, could it be true?

Horne it's time to "di di mau" your resignation. I would assume the US Attorney's Office, County Attorneys Polk and Montgomery, are collectively available this weekend to discuss a deal with you.

Resign, take your misfits with you, and the judicial proceedings against you may be dropped.

If all goes well, in a few weeks - you'll be watching "The Price is Right" in your pajamas and housecoat.   Extended lunch breaks and daily siestas are over.

This is big news. The smart people left in Horne's office are jumping ship before the indictments hit.  Rumor is there were 8 people in the executive suite; now 2 have left.  That's 25%.  What do you want to bet that more rats swim for the shore soon?

@ConcernedCitizenAZ Sorry, CC, but addressing any type of logic to Fox 10 is simply a waste of time and effort. They simply don't have the desire or ability to report factual and/or unbiased news.

@TommyCollins  is not spot-on.  I'm quite sure that neither Grisham nor Horne believe their nonsense.

One does have to feel sorry for the baby.

@TommyCollins  Yeah, I know every time my wife got pregnant, I would quit my job because every one knows kids don't cost any money.

@mikefrombisbee Mike, I still say a properly placed red dot behind his left eye would improve his imagine immeasurably. Visual that, if you can.

@Slappy Slappy, you're showing your age. Few of us actually know where you came up with "di di mau". What you might have said was that Horne is "dinky dow"....

TommyCollins

That sounds like something a convict would say...eerily, it comes from a person who's trained to use firearms, and has shot someone in the line of duty.

Tommy Collins remarks are reminiscent of the Glendale Sgt who used an Obama shirt as a shooting target.

@TommyCollins You're so insecure you post comments using my name, huh? That's impressive. What did you infer from my comment? I simply suggested a way that Mr. Horne's image might be improved. Nothing more.
