The American Civil Liberties Union named the three people who will serve on the "community advisory board" in the Melendres v. Arpaio racial-profiling case.

This board, established by Judge G. Murray Snow's order, can relay to Arpaio's monitor any concerns about possible violations of the injunction against the Sheriff's Office, and provide recommendations about MCSO policy to comply with the court order.

The three members of the committee are Lisa Duran, a local immigration attorney, Angeles Maldonado, and immigrant-rights organizer, and Carlos Santos, an assistant professor at Arizona State University's psychology department whose research focuses on immigrant and Latino populations.

More biographical information on the advisory committee members can be seen in the ACLU's court filing, embedded at the bottom of this post.

Initially, Judge Snow ordered that this community advisory board be made up of six members -- three from MCSO, and three from the ACLU's and other plaintiffs' side.

Snow amended that part last month, making the board a three-member panel, all selected by the plaintiffs, which deals with monitor Robert Warshaw instead of MCSO representatives.

"During the meetings of the [community advisory board], members will relay or gather concerns from the community about MCSO practices that may violate the provisions of this Order and the Court's previous injunctive orders entered in this matter and transmit them to the Monitor for his investigation and/or action," Snow's revised order states. "Members may also hear from MCSO Personnel on matters of concern pertaining to the MCSO's compliance with the orders of this Court."

Another part of the order states that the purpose of the board is to "facilitate regular dialogue between the Monitor and community leaders, and to provide specific recommendations to MCSO about policies and practices that will ensure that the provisions of this Order and other orders entered by the Court in this matter are met."

The board is required to meet at least three times per year, as long as the order is in effect.

This is a blatant conflict of interest. It's the same as the fox guarding the henhouse.

GOP law maker suggests death row inmate solution feed them to the lions? How biblical, Roman & Pagan of him! I think the right wing just cannot help themselves, much as the hypocrites of Jesus time, when they dragged the adulteress before him trying to trick him into contradicting Gods laws, mans laws, he wiser than them said he was not there to change Gods law but to fulfill it, let he that hath no sin cast that first stone, none could but one can bet Arpaio and his pals would gleefully cast them stones with not one twinge of guilt!

I wonder when the DOJ lawsuit, which is also costing taxpayers through the nose, will proceed to trial so the Fetid Fossil of MCSO can get his fat ass handed to him, yet again?

It should be noted that Judge Snow is also handling that complaint.

None of the old man's grandstanding and bullshit will help him with the DOJ lawsuit and Judge Snow...

I do think a DOJ representative should have been one of the plaintiffs' selections....

As Tommy said, the MCSO sheriff is mentally ill.....

I wonder if Judge Snow will plan ahead and have pink boxers in Joke's size for the hearing Joke has got to attend on 5/7!

It would be so much easier if we just had a professional sheriff who actually understands and obeys law, instead of the elderly guy who just makes up his own law, ad nauseum.

Not that MCSO has ANY say in this matter but I will guess the selection of these three folks went over like flatulence in a place of worship.

Which reminds me, I wonder what the old windbag is up to today. I just saw a picture of him kissing the pit bull that ripped the child apart. I haven't seen anything about the geriatric goon having visited the child to see how he's doing. I think someone has his priorities out of order.

The MCSO sheriff is mentally ill.

I applaud these three for having the courage to accept these duties. Can you imagine the hatred and, most likely threats, that they will get from the wing-nuts who support Joe.

If this happens, I think they should make the messages public.

@Tommy

It is sickening that Arpaio seized an opportunity to be a "Media Whore" with the pit bull that mauled a four year old boy that lost an eye and is scarred for life, not caring at all about the Child!!!

I hope skin color had nothing to do with Arpaio's complete lack of concern for the little boy?!

@DNichols That's a very good analogy, David. Only in this case there is video and audio recording of the match.

Lol John, it's a fact that the DOJ is suing the MCSO, Joe, and the county in its lawsuit also alleging racial-profiling.

It's also a fact that Judge Snow is handling that lawsuit.

I live in the real world. Where do you live?

@david_saint01 No you are better suited to sniff around Arpiao's butt looking for devious action's by the sheriff so you can bring your wealth of information to the low common denominator commenters here. Again you should apply for the cub reporter job at N.T.

@john043012 what has been gained so far (you may or may not agree, and some of this has yet to be fully proven) is that the court has established a history of non-compliance and resistance by continually bringing in MCSO upper command staff for corrections and dressing downs, so if they do push for more severe sanctions or guidelines or orders, they have documented the actions of MCSO. the other thing would be the removal of the 3 members of the advisory panel that would be chosen by MCSO, thus making it a panel more in favor of the other side instead of giving MCSO a chance to contest or debate their side. by removing the 3 MCSO candidates, the odds are now on the side of the ACLU. the ACLU didnt ask for that removal, the judge did after considering the actions of the MCSO. granted that wouldnt be considered a cautious move by Joe, but it would be considered a gain for the other side because of Joe's methods (just my opinion. if you feel i am wrong, i would like to hear how)

@MaskedMagician1967 exactly what has been gained for your side over the last 7 months what is different in Arpaio's methods he doesn't seem any more cautious then before Snows rulings and order's

@john043012 @david_saint01  lol two things..one, it doesnt take much to find malfeasance by arpaio. The sad thing is, despite its obviousness you continue to pretend it doesnt exist. Tell me skippy, who owns the commissary company that serves the jail, and where do those profits go? Second, lol for someone who relies on the word of a noted liar, using the term "low information" is just hilarious coming from you!! All Arpaio apologists are low information based on principle.
