For once, the news about Arizona's education system isn't strictly bad news.

Turns out, Arizona is no longer the nation's leader in high school dropouts.

Well, technically, Arizona hasn't been the leader in high school dropouts for several years now, as the Department of Education publishes these statistics a few years after the fact.

For the 2009-2010 school year, 7.8 percent of high school students dropped out, which was the highest rate in the nation.

According to the most recent report on drop-out rates from the DoE, 5 percent of high schoolers in Arizona dropped out in the 2010-2011 school year, and 5.9 percent dropped out in the 2011-2012 school year.

Alaska (7 percent), Michigan (6.9 percent), and New Mexico (6.4 percent) now have higher dropout rates than Arizona.

During the recession, Arizona colleges also raised their tuition rates more than any other state.

James, when we started at Thunderbird, there were over 1000 freshmen. 469 of us were there graduation night. By my calculations, just by graduating, we were in the top half of the class.

I'm not going to have time to debate statistical analysis with the innumerate today, but historically, over 40% of Hispanic students drop out of high school in Arizona.

Also, until a few years ago, dropout rates were over estimated because transfers between schools weren't tracked well enough and students who got a GED were still considered to be dropouts.

Perhaps, if you substituted the word 'also', it would not be so confusing for you.

@valleynative  ... so you hate ALL Hispanics, not just the "illegals" ...

... or is there no difference in your repugnant bigoted racist world of hate?

I'm sorry, but as I said, I don't have time to argue with idiots today.

Although how you manage to get hatred out of simple, objective fact, I really don't know.

The donkey is simply a provocateur and a not very bright one.

But he is fun to slap around.  He gives me my aggression fix.  The numb-nut little nimrod that he is.

Must be a bitch being a communist in the USA where you are detested, isn't it stinky?
