As a city with a lot of transplants, there are a lot of lessons people are going to learn after moving here.

Here are 10 things transplants will learn at some point after their move to Phoenix:

10.) Yes, you will get used to the heat

Listen, people who complain when it gets to 95 degrees -- one, shut it, and two, you'll get used to it. There's a reason literally millions of people live in the Phoenix area -- we're all used to it.

Uh Native Phoenician here. Also live in central corridor and see actual horses on bridle path occasionally. Lots of small farms in uptown.

They forgot to mention that your car will be broken into or stolen at least once a year. A homeless person will ask you for money every time you go near a convenience store no matter what part of town you're in. The drivers in phoenix are some of the worst in the country, and are generally uninsured and unlicensed. And if you're not already a drug addict you might as well join the club because chances are at least one of your neighbors will be a drug dealer.

There are a lot of whiners that apparently move to Phoenix and either realize after moving there that they can't take the heat for 3 to 4 measly little months -or- they just have bad attitudes and find themselves being miserable in anything they set out to do!

That's dumb. If you have read enough of them to condemn him, why would you keep reading? This says a lot more about you, than him..

Work moved me to Phoenix in 1999 then moved me back to the Midwest in 2008.  I miss it.

I've been stationed near Seoul South Korea twice for a year each! Loved it there.

non union wage and shitty hours. Watch co workers get carried away from work in an ambulance because the company is too cheap to use the A.C.. Houses built on unmarked graves. Everyone has a fake social security number.

Live in Saint Louis for a while and I bet you change your tone about Phoenix drivers. But then again, I suspect that every native resident of any particular geographical area claims that everybody else "except them" is a horrible driver lol. The grass is always greener on the other side!

I love Sheriff Joe ;) Many people do...this is why he is constantly being re-elected to office. I applaud how he runs his jails. Ya don't want to year the pink clothes and eat bologna sandwich's then don't do the crime. I agree with everything else though ;)

Eden Ray you've gotta see #7, & check-out #4 while you're at it! (They should've used the Mason Jar!)

Born and raised here. I got my license to drive in 1999. Two points I noticed. You do get used to the heat (I work outdoors year round) and driving has gone downhill. Quite a few will not let you change lanes with a blinker on, drivers seem to think you need to yield to a emergency vehicle going the opposite way when there is a dividing median. How about slowing down to enter a freeway? Or my favorite, blocking traffic to turn on a solid stripe. I would love a PSA on what a striped vs solid line in a road means

Well, having been here 7 months, all I can add is context about how bad the drivers are...not just poorly trained, but they couldn't care less about how to drive correctly...they park in the left lane going 36 in a 65, and just look straight ahead. Leaving 500 empty road feet in front of you makes it MORE, not LESS, likely you will get hit from behind by a driver going faster than you. The single ticket I've gotten was for using some of the boundless EMPTY ROADWAY that drivers leave untouched...mine was in the shoulder unfortunately...the cop didn't believe that in Boston we were allowed to drive in the shoulder b/c there was too little road for too many cars...it's just common sense...PHX drivers DO NOT GET HOW WELL THEY HAVE it on the roads here....SO MUCH DAMN SPACE...JUST USE IT, DAMN IT! And if I almost rear end ANOTHER EEJIT who STOPS DEAD ON A MERGE ONTO THE 101 or 202 or 303, I *WILL* DRIVE RIGHT OVER YOU and NOT LOOK BACK! SO MUCH OF DRIVING IS ABOUT ANTICIPATING...AND THE EEJITS WHO DRIVE TOO SLOW AND DON'T CARE about any one else keep me and everyone else from ANTICIPATING WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN ON THE 10 at RUSH HOUR od the MERGE of EITHER THE 17 or the 51 onto the 101 WEST at RUSH HOUR! Finally, One doesn't get used to the heat, per se....one just realizes that energy wasted bitching about it starts one toward being Hot and Uncomfortable for NO REASON.

Kudos to Matthew Hendley for such a well written piece. I am one of the rare Az natives by the way. Thanks for the shout out.

If you want to see a thousand different shades of tan, identical strip malls for miles and miles, love seeing guns in every imaginable place, want to be surrounded by hate and just have a desire to be surrounded by dirt, Phoenix is the place to be! (It surprises nobody that housing is dirt cheap, can't lure people in otherwise)

I totally agree with the car thing. I was just thinking that the air isn't strong enough in the backseat yesterday. One other thing that makes you want to stab someone, the fee for registering your vehicle.... OMG!!!

#11 - out of staters are baffled when you are from AZ and don't have a tan in summer. They don't understand that it is our winter and we STAY the frick indoors when the sun is out.

Denver? F Denver. Just as bad crappy weather in the opposite direction- but with shittier city/management and layout. Who wants to drive on ice/snow and freeze their balls off a few months a year? I don't care how damn "majestic" the Rocky Mountains are. San Fran and anywhere south on the coast or Hawaii can make a case as top dawg - long as u can stand an earthquake every now and then in CA. Everywhere else has significant faults - weather wise.
