If you spend enough time on the highways around Phoenix, you've undoubtedly noticed that it's hard to go for a drive without witnessing an act of sheer stupidity from another driver.

That said, we revisited the state's driver manual, and picked out 10 things everyone needs to relearn, now:

Page 22:
Pull off the road safely and stop if you are going to use a cell phone or send/receive a text message. Use of such devices while driving results in distracted driving behavior and is dangerous.
If you text and drive, do everyone a favor and just punch yourself in the throat.

I expected to see pull over to the right and stop when emergency vehicles are nearby with sirens and emergency lights on. It drives me nuts when people just stop anywhere in the middle of the road. The point is to clear a path!

This IS the worst city in the country to drive in because of how everyone drives on the freeways. Also, I bet NO ONE knows how to set your mirrors to cover your blind spots...yes it CAN be done. We have an advanced driving school that people from all over the country come to and we have the worst drivers ever. Should be a requirement to go take courses at Bondurant

It's funny that no one on here has commented on any of the other things in the article. 9 out of 10 drivers have NO idea how to drive safely on the freeway.

I have never one time sent a text while driving. Nor read one. And it's incredible... but my life has not fallen apart. The argument I was in with so and so actually waited until I wasn't driving to resolve via text. The plans I was making for drinks actually GOT made when I wasn't driving. shocking I know. It's beyond my comprehension that people cannot f ing wait until their car is not moving to text.

Fuck that! I don't need the government telling me how to damn live my life! Move to libville la if you want to give the govt your hard earned money!

Isn't that why there are things like Siri? Just talk into your phone... One button and say text so and so? Are we not smart enough to use smart phones?

Thing is, the majority of drivers on the road got their license before cell phones were around so they've never read that in a drivers manual. Just another reason why I believe drivers need to be retested. We have to take our vehicles in every 1, 2, or 5 years. I think drivers should be retested just as often.

Alan where is the one for emergency vehicles!?!? For those that don't know, pull to the RIGHT!!!!! Dont go left (that's where emergency vehicles go, we are not in Mexico)!! And don't stop in the lane you are in, if an emergency vehicle is coming up behind you!

Pg 45. The center lane is a left turn lane NOT a merge lane. A driver is not allowed to turn right out of the center lane.

Shouldn't there be a simple rule that tells you to keep up with traffic? If the speed limit is 55 and you are going 40 then there is a problem if traffic is moving at 65. KEEP UP WITH THEM.  You will be ticketed if going to slow.

Yes, if you approach an intersection with a red light, but in the right lane you have a green right turn arrow, PLEASE DON'T STOP FIRST!!! because you are going to get rear ended....

Every week I watch Scottsdale PD roll right turns on RED and not signaling to do so. They also look at their computer screens a lot while they are driving in traffic....

Drivers need to stop BEFORE the painted lines of a crosswalk, not in the middle of the crosswalk. How many times you see people have to back up to allow wheelchairs or strollers to pass safely!!

So Patrick you feel that drivers shouldn't be alerted that they maybe not paying attention or doing something wrong??

Your horn is a warning device, not something to use because you feel another driver has done you wrong. Something missing from this list.

I never read the manual. Aced the test. Common sense.

Willing to bet the author is guilty of all 10 and more.

Assuming people here read or care about what was in the manual lol. Phoenix drivers want to do everything they can to make sure everyone involved in the accident dies.

I can't tell you how many times I'm almost squashed coming off of the freeway at Warner and the 101. Sign clearly says "Yield to Ramp Traffic", but people must not see it or think, "screw the ramp traffic!" Then, once you've made it past that obstacle, there is a sign that says "No Turn on Red". So I've got my blinker on and I'm waiting patiently to turn right...someone inevitably starts honking and carrying on. One of my biggest pet peeves here the valley...can you tell?!

Brenda German

Yes. Do they have any idea how many times I read the first page of something and then say screw it about the rest? I know I am not the only one....

I am pretty sure only a handful of people know how to use the center lane and the meanings of the different line markings. I ride a motorcycle and I see it used incorrectly every time I ride.

George Mendez

People driving in the bike lane, people passing then slowing down once they get in front of you and people who don't know how to merge on the freeway.

To be a 24/7 Tempe cyclist you almost need an UZI and a couple of smoke grenades in order to have a safe journey. Do these licenses tumble out of Pop-Tart boxes?

AZ drivers are hands down the worst!!!!! The one thing I hate about moving here from The east coast.

Well all I can add to this "I am honking at you because you are doing something WRONG!!" Don't take this as a showdown!! It's a horn NOT a Gun!!!

11. Flashing Red lights = 4 way stop. So if you are at a controlled crosswalk and the lights start to flash you can go (after complete stop) you don't have to wait until the lights disappear...

Every single day when I enter I-10 on 7th street and 7th Ave, people race through the yield sign to beat the oncoming traffic. A cop could make his non-existent quota in about an hour at these locations.

I remember when the New Times was actually relevant. Now it's all "_____ sucks because ____" Followed by an article on the the exact same thing but "____ rules because ____"

It would be even nicer if the police actually followed these rules AND enforced them.

It's a three second rule versus two seconds when following behind another vehicle.

Phoenix drivers are ace compared to Fla drivers. I just spent a month there.
