A Phoenix woman is accused of throwing a kitten off the balcony of her third-floor apartment, killing it.

According to court documents obtained by New Times, neighbors heard 49-year-old Patricia Gaffin arguing loudly with her children before tossing the kitten over the balcony.

Multiple neighbors witnessed Gaffin throw the kitten at the apartment complex near 15th Avenue and Hatcher Road.

According to a police probable-cause statement, Gaffin "later admitted to being a 'kitten killer' and attempted to justify her actions due to the fact that the kitten had urinated on the new carpet in her apartment."

Gaffin was booked into jail on a felony animal-cruelty charge but was released without having to post bond. She is to be supervised during her release, according to a judge's order.

Court documents indicate Gaffin has been involved in prior domestic-violence incidents.
