Ruben Gallego

Ruben Gallego isn't wasting any time amassing a campaign war chest, announcing earlier this week that he already has $160,000 in campaign contributions from more than 800 donors.

Gallego is facing competition from Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox and state Senator Steve Gallardo for the open seat in Arizona's Seventh Congressional District.

Other politicos toyed with the idea of running, including Kyrsten Sinema and Pastor's daughter, Laura.

Laura Pastor recently was elected to the Phoenix City Council, and decided to remain at her current post. Sinema, likewise, opted to stay put in Congressional District 9.

Aside from raking up money, Gallego has also scored notable endorsements from Congressman Raul Grijalva and Civil Rights/Labor Leader Dolores Huerta.

Congressman Ed Pastor has endorsed Wilcox. And the AFSCME (American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees) is endorsing Gallardo.

This is gonna be a tough race.  I hope at the end of the day, once all the dust settles, we won't have a divided community over whom some endorsed and whom others didn't.  After all, they all have the same circles of friends.   Tough one, indeed.
