No surprise here: Phoenix isn't exactly one of the safest cities in Arizona.

Read on to find the 10 safest cities in Arizona, where you might die of boredom but probably not as a result of a violent crime:

Violent Crimes Per 1,000: 1.29
Property Crimes Per 1,000: 18.80

Does it bother anyone else that Maricopa is in Pinal County, not Maricopa County?

All the crap in AZ rolls down hill, and ends up in phx.

Who came up with this list anyway? I'd like to see the survey. Scottsdale has always been known for having low crime. I'm guessing Fountain Hills is right up there too. Both beautiful places to live with a lot of events and activities and where people actually can walk the streets at night and not be shot. Every place has some crime these days, but who wants to live in a town where there is absolutely nothing happening and miles away from what is? People moved to the towns listed for cheap housing, not low crime.

Gilbert sucks! And those other towns are the middle of nowhere.

Gilbert always been a police state. They always harass people who don't fit there image. Even the court system there sucks too.

I left in July 96 when I went in the Navy. Last time I was in Mesa, it was pretty bad. The area I grew up in has really gone to shit. I plan I retiring in Arizona. I'll be in AZ tomorrow looking at different houses/property. Any idea(s) how that area got so bad? It was a great area in the 80s/90s.

In Gilbert I might not die from a random act of violence, but do feel myself almost dying from a general lack of excitement.

Maricopa is a name of a federally recognized Indian tribe in Arizona. Yet, it's no where near the Maricopa reservation either.

Actually, it should be titled: Do you live in one of the most boring cities in Arizona?

Nobody, including the criminals, has heard of most of these places. Recently met a police officer who retired out of Florence. Said there was lots of crime because when released many of the inmates stay in the area.

Not exactly a purposeful report if you exclude the municipalities where the majority of the population lives. Perhaps re evaluating the story to actually be beneficial to the readership would be wise?

This is a dumb list. I haven't even heard of half those podunk towns

Pima: has Taylor Freeze, an old-school mom and pop drive-In featured in Az Highways, the Gila River (with water) and lots of Mormons. Clifton: An old copper mining town a la Bisbee located in a steep canyon  (like Bisbee). People in Clifton generally hate Morenci and the copper company up the hill because of the 1983 strike. (scabs are considered lower than child molesters in Clifton). Clifton is surrounded by mucho beautiful country - the Gila Box, the Black Hills Scenic Byway, it's close to the White Mtns. and to lots of beautiful country in NM. It's also the gateway to Duncan, which has a very nice B & B and one of the best pizza parlors in AZ. Sahuarita: Located in the Santa Cruz Valley, close to Tubac, Tumacacori, the Santa Rita Mountains, Patagonia, Sonoita, the San Rafael Valley, etc. etc. The Titan Missile Museum is a real eye-opener. Nine megatons of fascinating, Strangelovian history. Mutual Assured Destruction and all that happy stuff. You big-city slickers ought to leave your miles and miles of ticky-tacky housing and strip malls and freeways and get out on the road and see the state you live in. You MIGHT be surprised at what you find.

What a joke. I just read a couple of days ago that Scottsdale was one of the safest cities and it didn't even make the list. Who puts these out?

@mikefrombisbee Agreed. Outside of Phoenix, AZ has some amazing scenery, interesting history, and unique little towns. I've lived in Phoenix for 20 years but have made sure to explore every inch of this amazing state. I'm finally thinking of moving to have a change of pace, and no matter how shitty Phoenix is and how messed up the politics are, I know there is so much I'll miss about AZ. There's no place like it.

@mikefrombisbee  The San Francisco river in Clifton is very pretty. And going up thru Morenci and Alpine is a bitchin' ride on a motorcycle.
