From Friday through St. Patrick's Day on Monday, DUI task forces around the state made 413 DUI arrests.

Although you might expect most of the arrests to have come Monday, the majority of the arrests (233) were made on Friday and Saturday.

The average blood alcohol-level of those breathalyzed this weekend was 0.153, but the people arrested for DUI on Sunday and on St. Patrick's Day brought the average down to 0.145 -- lower than last year's average of 0.151.

In addition to the DUI arrests, the officers on the task forces handed out nearly 3,900 traffic citations for speeding, not wearing a seat belt, or anything else over the four-day stretch.

Nearly 1,600 officers participated in the task forces statewide.

I didn't think there was a problem with a .08 alcohol limit. I recently moved to California and seriously recommend that Arizona CITIZENS and politicians review the DUI laws in CA (SD county more specifically).

DUI's do not have to be so black and white.

Speak up!

People are dumbasses, go just get a cab. 99% of them probably went out with the intention to get hammered Heck, some cabs are even free if you are piss ass drunk.

So they doubled the amount of people they stopped and the numbers were nearly identical to last year (except they harassed more people with speeding tickets...)

Yep that's this town- Stupid stupid stupid... Problem is that the probable cause in Az has been manipulated in the worst way... Anyone could be accused of DUI, until the blood tests are in, you never know!

According to Wikipedia, in Arizona, the right to vote is restored for first time offenders and those that successfully petition for reinstatement.

They really should really campaign that if the state really gave a crap but they don't so, they will not bother educating people until its too late.

There is no drinking & driving responsibly what so ever here. Zero tolerance is zero. They will not let u go if you have had a single drop. Learned that before I even got into my car one nite. Thank god it got dropped but lesson learned!

If I'm not mistaken, Arizona has a zero tolerance when it comes to DUI

So in one night, 431 voters were taken off the books in Arizona.

Not to mention any DUI is now a felony which means you lose the right to vote. Really? I've never been arrested and this pisses me off. It should you as well. Gotta keep those privatized prisons full though, right?

DUI enforcement IS about money. If you think the police are anything but revenue lackeys for the state then you aren't paying attention. Arizona is the only place I've ever been where the police feel like an occupying force.

looking at the average BAC on this graph, it is .15... If the majority were borderline, the others would have to be way high to get that as an average.

Percentage of Increase in cops participating outweighs all other factors. Number of DUI's made kind of pales in comparison. If you look at the ROI for each cop, was it worth it to make the task force so big?

if you believe DUI enforcement is about money, you might be an idiot.

I'm sure the vast majority of those were just on the line. Not that drinking and driving is ok in any circumstance, but there really are worse offenders out there on a holiday.

Good job!!!. If you can drink responsibly than at least drive responsibly !!! And if you don't im glad we have these dui check points and beefed upped patrols. The life that might be saved could be your own!

It'd be nice if they'd use all that money to subsidize late night buses.

I wonder how that compares to the rest of the country..... but do the math... its what 1200 to get a breathilizer on your car... so thats like 490k right there... then its 200 a month for a year.. thats 89k a month right there.. x 12. Thats like a little over 1.5 million added revenue to the state... yipeeee .. now they can build that park for the kids to play and fix some damn p0otholes.. but they probably gonna just use that money to put up radars on the freeway that are worthless and hire more cops to keep us in a stiffer police state... dar....

I've never in my life been offered a free cab.

Perhaps people should just live within their means and throw a party at home if they can't afford to go out without a DD.

**DD means designated driver for those not familiar**
