A waiter at a Chinese restaurant shot a cook in the head Sunday afternoon, police say.

According to court documents obtained by New Times, there were at least 15 people eating in the Good China restaurant, near 67th Avenue and Thomas Road when 33-year-old waiter David Ong shot a cook who was at work in the kitchen.

The shot wasn't incredibly serious, and the cook was able to be released from the hospital Sunday. Ong also fired a shot at a second cook, but that shot missed as the man ran out the back door of the restaurant.

According to the court documents, he cook later told police that Ong "had an issue with the cooks speaking Spanish," and Ong believed they were talking about him. The cook was adamant that they didn't talk about him, the documents state.

Police found Ong shortly after the shooting sitting on a curb in the parking lot. He had the gun in his jacket pocket, according to court documents.

Ong told police he'd been bringing the gun to work for the past three months and admitted to shooting the two men Sunday, the documents state. He added that there was another waiter he would have shot had he been in the kitchen at the time, according to the documents.

Court documents state that Ong also admitted to having a meth habit and smoked meth about two minutes before shooting. Police recovered a meth pipe and three bags of meth while searching Ong.

Ong was booked into jail on two counts of attempted murder, in addition to the drug charges. His bond was set at $375,000.

The cops should have made him stay and do everyone else's sidework for the night before taking him in.

The Mexicans or "Spanish speaking cooks" at the Chinese buffet are lucky to survive this senseless act of violence. Because of the meth in that Asian dude's system. Had the Asian guy been drug-free, the cooks would probably not have survived.

Damn, we had 3 shootings yesterday or this past weekend. The auto shop shooting, the nail salon shooting and this one.

@wtf....   No one said that.  In this story, his drug of choice is meth, has nothing to do with pot.

@Lone_Wolf  Plus the also fatal shooting at an AM/PM. Cops believe it's the same perp as the one at the auto repair shop. He led them on a high-speed chase this morning. He got cornered on the 60 in Mesa, got out and started shooting, and the cops wasted him. Good.
