Being a lawmaker in Arizona isn't all about being a poor, humble servant of the people.

Actually, many times, it seems like the exact opposite. Aside from earning the title of being the "meth-lab of democracy," there are some perks to being a lawmaker in Arizona. Check out our top-10 picks:

10.) Pay

Legislators love to complain about how much they get paid, with an annual salary of $24,000. It's not that bad when you consider that the Legislature's usually in session for less than half a year.

- Put this kind of thing on ONE page - it is just idiotic to try to reload over-and-over again just so we get to read ONE more paragraph and ignore several more crappy pieces of advertising. I'll be most people don't bother to read these kinds of articles - precisely because of that poor structure. So what's the point of writing/assembling something IF we are NOT gonna read it?

I don't think you're interpreting  legislative immunity correctly:

Members of the legislature shall be privileged from arrest in all cases except treason, felony, and breach of the peace, and they shall not be subject to any civil process during the session of the legislature, nor for fifteen days next before the commencement of each session. (Article IV, part 2, section 6.)

As you say, they're protected from all charges arising from legislative activity, but they are also protected from arrest during session and the 15 days prior.   The original idea was that there might someday be some sort of corrupt Sheriff, for example, who would trump up an excuse to arrest his political opponents to prevent them from attending an important debate or vote.

As I understand it, they can be arrested once session ends, and charged with drunk driving or assault or whatever, but not during session.

The Tea-Party controlled State Legislature is so corrupt, it is no surprise.

Elected office should not be a career, except for judges. Laws should be crystal clear, and you should apply the common man standard. Would the common man, in a non elected job, think this perk is BS. If so, it should be outlawed. And anything that you get, for the sole reason you are a elected official. Would that lobbyist take you out to dinner or give you Fiesta Bowl tickets, IF You WERE NOT an elected official--of any kind, legislator, mayor council member, board member? If not then, it is outlawed. Kavanagh's rationale for trips to Asia, are complete bull cookies.

As are all the self serving legislation, especially on "school choice."

How many Ploiticians  mysteriously become  Millionares  after one or two terms?!

Did Dennis Deconcinni really find out where Palo Verder Nuclear Plant was to be built, then purchase the land, and re sell it to the Government making Millions?

Did Terry Godard as (Mayor of Phoenix?) really condem a Downton Phoenix High rise building, then purchase it , then turn the block it sat on into a "Historic Neighborhood", then,un condemn it, and  re sell it making a fortune?!

Are Politicians are in it for the Dirty Money they can make?

To: Political Corruption, may it continue to flourish in Arizona.

@wtf...

You could always look at the legislature's web site, if you really want to know what he's been doing.

@DNichols

There was a time when Deconcinni could buy land and other investors would assume that some secret deal was in the works and so would buy land near his, and that alone would drive up the value of his property.

Boy, those Republicans sure are evil ... oops, those are both Democrats.

There are hundreds of school board members in Arizona who serve everyday for no pay and no perks. There is plenty of amazing talent in that group. And they serve for the good of the children, not what they can get out of it. Three in Gilbert being the exception.
