A 36-year-old man was fatally shot inside a Walmart store in Chandler Sunday after getting into a fight with another customer.

According to Chandler police, it appears that the men didn't know each other before getting into a dispute at the service counter in the store, near Warner and Alma School roads.

UPDATE March 4: Chandler police have released the video of the shooting. Click here to view the footage.

That verbal argument between Kriston Belinte-Chee and 25-year-old Kyle Quadlin turned into a physical fight inside the store around 4 p.m., according to police.

Chandler Police Sergeant Joe Favazzo says Quadlin later told police that he was losing the fight and "was in fear for his life," so he pulled out a gun and shot Belinte-Chee.

Belinte-Chee was hospitalized but was pronounced dead Sunday evening.

Quadlin was not booked into jail in the case, as police will submit the case for the Maricopa County Attorney's Office to review.

Favazzo says there is video footage of the event, but it won't be immediately released, as detectives are still reviewing it.

I wonder why the chandler police department told witnesses to not say a word while Quadlin got to tell his story....hmmmm.  This should be further investigated

They released the surveillance footage. It clearly shows the white guy's disrespectful cutting in line and waltzing straight up to the customer service desk without disregard for other customers already waiting in line. This is when the Navajo confronted the jerk about it. Words were exchanged. He proceeds to follow the coward out of the store, in which he pushed him out the door or at least tried to kick him out (from the looks of it). No punches were thrown. Not a single punch. Not a single grab or struggle. Once on the floor, the coward gets back up and shoots at the Navajo.

Was he in danger in any way? Certainly not. A knock down to the floor is not a danger or life threatening. Was he losing a fight according to him? No he was not. There was no fight whatsoever. Just a shove by Mr. Chee. Did he sustain any injuries? On the linoleum? I strongly doubt it. He got right back up on his feet and shoots Chee, then flees within seconds.

He had no justification in using his gun. He committed a down right murder.

To argue, and brawl in a Walmart indicates Mental Issues?!

We need Gun Laws to keep guns out of the hands of people with Mental Issues!

Especially Mental Idiots carrying concealed weapons looking for anyone to fight, and shoot, even at a Walmart.

DNichols
DNichols

I think that without knowing he had a concealed gun the younger person would have never had the courage to fight in the first place.

A hidden weapon gives COWARDS a false sense of courage.

Starting a fight knowing he had a concealed gun, and if losing the brawl he could shoot, and kill the other man seems like premeditated Murder to me.

This is why the COWARD ran away, he knew what he did was both COWARDLY, and wrong!

Stand your ground laws exist in Arizona........just don't look at anybody anywhere, anytime, mind your own business or risk getting shot.......oh then leave the scene and say you were scared of retaliation and everyone will say no problem of course he was scared dont arrest him......Im not sure but I bet the shooter is white.....im guessing.

@Lone_Wolf Also when Quadlin was "knocked down" (he did NOT fall on the floor only to his knees for a second) Chee was under him, he got up and shot chee who was getting up from the plastic chair  display  (1:43) Chee puts his arm up to sadly try to cover the bullet, Quadlin still shoots, and runs a few steps behind menacingly.

Ipso facto.

The police, who were actually there, and took reports from witnesses and watched the video, feel otherwise.   I have to give their opinions more weight.

What did he think he was protecting her from, and how did he go about "protecting her"?    If he used violence when it wasn't necessary, then he's not innocent.  The police seem to believe the shooting was self-defense.  What different information do you have?

treanorj

 You probably should be man enough to finish a fight instead of being a chickenshit by going for your gun. Don't wanna get your ass kicked? Keep your mouth shut and mind your own business.

More people carry concealed than you seem to realize.  We're all around you in the mall and the grocery store.  If it was common at all for us to shoot over a minor offense, we would have several such shootings every day.

The vast majority of us, however, are sane, responsible adults, so we don't allow minor disputes to end somebody's life and change our own drastically for the worse.

The real world is not like TV dramas.   Only a very tiny percentage of those who carry will ever draw their weapon outside of a shooting range.

Warrior-X

@valleynative @lisalisanoneyaThe coward in question was not in any danger. A push to the ground is not a threat to your life. Unless you're a ailing senior. The coward was a 25 year old law breaker. Speaking of responsibility. The jerk cut in several lines of customers. Setting off an exchange between the victim and the coward, as the surveillance footage shows.

Obviously the shooter was the instigator.

@treanorj

If you're carrying, you have an obligation to avoid trivial confrontations that might escalate into a death, but to say that it's "chickenshit" to choose to save your own life, rather than decide "Oh, well, I guess I deserve to be beaten to death because I didn't walk away when I could", is foolish and hypocritical.

aznative818

That "very tiny percentage of those who carry", is all it takes for what happened in Walmart to happen more often then not. What a scary weird world we now live in, I hate it.

If you believe that the other guy is going to shoot, then, yes, it does become a matter of shooting first.  Common sense.  Something you wouldn't understand, but nearly everybody else does.

DonkeyHotay
DonkeyHotay topcommenter

@valleynative

So if both of them did have a gun, and your assertion that whomever shoots last is the victim, every confrontation becomes a rush to shoot first.

... typical gun-loon cowardice.

@DonkeyHotay

I guess I need to explain things to you in more detail than I would to, for example, a small child.

You see, Donkey, by being on the scene, even though it was after the incident, the police were able to interview witnesses and watch the video tape.  Is that clear now?

valleynative
valleynative topcommenter

@DNichols

If he started the fight, then I'll say that he was in the wrong to start it.  If he could have defused the situation and chose not to, then I'll say that he was in the wrong to allow it to escalate.

But there were two parties involved.  The other man didn't try to defuse it.  The other man didn't stop when this guy was clearly beaten.  He continued to the point that this guy thought that his life was in imminent danger.  There is NO EXCUSE for that.  At that point, shooting him in self-defense was justified.

DonkeyHotay
DonkeyHotay topcommenter

@valleynative ... funny that guntards equate "being afraid" with "self defense".

If you piss-pant gutless cowards want to be free of your own pathetic fears, then kill yourselves now.

Packing a hidden pistol won't give you any legitimate courage.

valleynative

@DonkeyHotay @DNichols

So it was wrong for this guy to shoot in self defense, but it would be cool if somebody shot him in self defense?   This is the sort of thing that makes it so hard for me to not call you a moron.

By the way, those of us who carry understand this risk, and accept it, because we're not going to draw and fire unless our lives are already in danger.

DonkeyHotay
DonkeyHotay topcommenter

@DNichols  ... wouldn't it have been cool if another piss-pant concealed coward had pulled, shot and killed the shooter ... claiming that he "feared for his life" when he saw another man with a gun shoot and kill an unarmed stranger ...

@aznative818

The police on the scene agreed that it was self-defense.  That's not reported here, of course, but it is in other media reports.

When somebody's about to kill you, it's stupid to say that you won't use a gun to save your life.

The lesson here is not that people shouldn't carry guns, but that you shouldn't attack people physically, because they just might be able to defend themselves.

aznative818
aznative818

How do you know he was within an inch of getting his arse beaten to "death"?  Just asking, because they haven't exactly said what happened yet, I'm sure more will be coming out in the next few days and weeks, until then, do we really know how this came about? We need to quit using guns to solve fights, period.

valleynative

@interst88

The alternative was that the attacker beat him to death.   Do you really prefer that?   I'll help you pack.

valleynative
valleynative topcommenter

@aznative818

He should have avoided the confrontation, if possible.  We don't know what happened and why he didn't.  Once he was physically attacked, he had no obligation to run away.  If somebody tries to beat you to death, you have every moral and legal right to use deadly force to stop him.

aznative818
aznative818

Oh puleeeze, he was in a walmart fer gawds sake, he could have turned his arse around and hightailed it out of there, he could have curled into a ball, he could have screamed fire and hid behind someone, preferrably a little old lady, he could have done numerous things to diffuse the situation, instead, the idiot shot the guy, which caused more heartache for everyone concerned.

You don't seem to understand that it appears that this shooting was a good thing.  A man was able to save his life after being attacked.  No innocent parties were hurt.
