There are a whole lot of myths and urban legends about Phoenix.

Strap on your helmet just in case your mind gets blown by our picks for the 10 biggest myths about Arizona's capital:

10.) It's Full of Old People

The median age in Phoenix is about 32. The median age in the United States is about 35. When people mark Phoenix as a place for retirees and snowbirds, they mostly mean the Phoenix area. Retirees have their own cities in the West Valley, for example.

The state's median age is 36, while the median age in Scottsdale is 41. It's not Phoenix that's full of old folks.

Barry Goldwater would be so ashamed of what's happened to his state.

Don't worry about the myths. Reality is the problem. You have a reactionary conservative legislature that is on par with the Taliban. The governor is about as smart as Sarah Palin, and your infamous Sheriff is an international embarrassment. That doesn't say much for the average IQ of the electorate. Phoenix is seen as a place where old bible thumping bigots go to die. Why would decent people even want to visit?

Just a question: If you hate this city and the people in it and you think there is no culture or anything valuable here... Why do you live here? Really?

7) Bullshit. I know several people who watched the V fly directly over them. I suspect it was a stealth drone action that paved the way for the new air traffic control tower at Sky Harbor. A Mathias Rust operation.

What about the fact that people in other states or around the world think we talk like Nicholas Cage in Raising Arizona or that all of Arizona is a desolate desert with cowboys roaming around? hahaha

They got it wrong about the Phoenix Lights. That anyone's trying to call them flares is the myth. People saw them all over the state. Way to misinform.

come on! Phoenix Lights were not flares. talk to all the people who saw them. *that* should be the myth.

To even begin to think water is no big deal is asinine. Considering we here in the valley need it to snow up north and it isn't and water from the Colorado we are in trouble. They are cutting 15 to 20 percent from the Colorado that Arizona used to get and there has been very little snow up north.

It is the kidnapping capital of the US. Most kidnappings are cartel related. Phoenix is already out of water. Everything out of your faucet comes from recycled gray water. Phoenix does NOT have any culture. Especially, in comparison to other major cities. No one in the.entire Maricopa County can NOT COOK. I honestly think chefs come to Phoenix to open restaurants after they've been fired and barred from cooking in other major cities. Very few native Phoenicians exist. The city is designed to keep "OTHERS" out. I've never seen so many homes surrounded by CINDER BLOCK WALLS in my life.

As somebody who watched the Phoenix lights slowly fly over that night, I can personally assure you the the bullshit "flare" story is in fact, bullshit. He claims they were hovering over the base, but I was at 40th St and Thunderbird when it flew over. I'm pretty sure there are no bases around there.

Actually, Tina, it's"lightning"..your predictive text fooled you as it does many people.  The "boat" myth is actually a misinterpretation, Arizona is supposed to have more shoreline than all of California's West Coast is the "truthiness" I've previously heard.
