John McCain Censured by Maricopa County GOP

The Maricopa County Republican Committee voted to censure Senator John McCain.

In other words, with a 1,150-351 vote, the county GOP passed a resolution that says it doesn't like McCain anymore.

Republican committees in Apache County and Mohave County have passed similar resolutions since the beginning of the new year, but it's a bit stronger coming from Maricopa County, where 62 percent of the state's registered Republicans live.

According to a statement released by county GOP chairman A.J. LaFaro, the resolution "is reflective of the growing dissatisfaction and discontent with McCain's performance among grassroots Republicans in Maricopa County, Arizona, and the U.S."

Here's what the resolution says:
Senator John McCain Censured by Arizona's Republican Leadership
As leaders in the Republican Party, we are obligated to fully support our Party, platform, and its candidates. Only in times of great crisis or betrayal is it necessary to publicly censure our leaders. Today, we are faced with both. For too long we have waited, hoping Senator McCain would return to our Party's values on his own. That has not happened. So with sadness and humility we rise and declare:
  • Whereas Senator McCain has amassed a long and terrible record of drafting, co-sponsoring, and voting for legislation best associated with liberal Democrats, such as Amnesty, funding for ObamaCare, the debt ceiling, liberal nominees, assaults on the Constitution and 2nd amendment; and
  • Whereas this record has been disastrous and harmful to Arizona and the United States; and
  • Whereas Senator McCain has campaigned as a conservative and made promises during his re-election campaigns, such as the needed and welcomed promise to secure our borders and finish the border fence, only to quickly flip-flop on those promises; and
  • Whereas McCain has abandoned our values and has been eerily silent against Liberals, yet publicly reprimands Conservatives in his own Party, therefore
  • BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Maricopa County Republican Committee censures Senator McCain for his continued disservice to our State and Nation, and
  • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that until he consistently champions our Party's Platform, we, the Republican leadership in Arizona will no longer support, campaign for or endorse John McCain as our U.S. Senator.
McCain's last re-election, in 2010, came with hardly any competition. He defeated former Congressman J.D. Hayworth by more than 24 percentage points, then won the general election over Democrat Rodney Glassman by about the same margin.

Since his first election to the Senate in 1986, no candidate has ever come within 20 points of McCain in a primary or general election. If he decides to run again, he's not due for reelection until 2016.

He should. He's no patriot. He did nothing to defend our borders.

I read the resolution again, just to be sure I had a good idea what was being suggested.

I will assume it is being distributed on toilet paper. That way it will serve a meaningful cause.

Seriously.....

I gave up on McCain when he cashed in his "maverick" title to brown-nose the Bush admin. so as to get his nod for the presidency. But I think that the Maricopa County GOP has wanted him to keep (goose) step with them as they've grown meaner and more blackhearted, which any person with a conscience would refuse to do. He's less of a maverick and more mellow for sure, and from what I've heard and read, he seems more interested now about doing right by America, party be damned. Therefore I think the GOP is angry with him because he would rather do what he has sworn to do rather than help them turn the US into a GOP/Tea Party run prison camp of fear-imposed homogeneity.

If this keeps McSame from being reelected when he runs next time (which he says he's going to do --- when he'll be "80"), I'm all for it.  However, we need a Democrat to replace him not some whacko GOPer along the lines of Cruz, Paul & other GOP nutcases.

It's now official. Freedom of thought and expression is not allowed in the Arizona Republican party.....

First of all no one should be in the Senate or Congress for more than two terms.  So get him out of there, keeping the same man breeds nothing but corruption and mediocrity.  He's been in since 1987 and it's way past time we have a different rep for our state.

Look, McCain is an asshole, Promised to only run for three terms (Back when!), bedmate with Joe Bonanno, Dumps wife to marry into more money (-and New Wife steals painkillers meant for poor villagers in South America), Lies, Cheats, Steals, etc.. (I just mentioned the EARLY stuff).

But the Party is full of bigger assholes, and now, when McCain is about two more cancer operations away from the Dirt Nap, they shit on him publicly.

Stay classy, boys.

@TommyCollinsThe Republican Party in Maricopa County--if not the entire state--has been completely taken over by the ignorant, immature, shitballs-crazy mutants known as the "Tea Party," as proven by the language of the "resolution" above. It's so pathetic that I'd break out laughing while reading that thing - if it weren't for the fact that these fools are dead serious. And that scares the shit out of me.

All this proves is that the GOP in this state is in its death throes. It's going to be a long, painful, bloody and ugly death, but the GOP will die - unless they accept that the 1950s--and the days of white christian males being allowed to run everything just because they are white christian males--are dead, gone, and never coming back.

People who are less than rational label such behavior "flip-flopping".

@valleynative @Trommy I think term limits was a grand idea 12 years ago. But now with the state of Congress being what it is I'm afraid that if we imposed term limits the people who would run would be those who would see Congress as a way to get rich quick, and NOT because they want to work for the better of our nation. Sad what our Congress has become overall.

No

It would be representation. You know, as in a representative government.

The excuse that no one better has been found, is just that, an excuse since no one better will be found or can be found in some peoples opinions (not mine).

So the rally cry of "first find someone better" is absolute bullshit.

btw - don't bother replying with spin and blather, I am not interested in having a debate with you about this.

@TommyCollins ... it seems those who have no personal honor or heroism often attempt to steal the valor of others, merely by insinuating themselves into a group where "some" may have those characteristics, they then proceed to claim those traits for themselves by mere association, without earning them.

That unfortunately sums up the VAST MAJORITY of Military and Police in this country. Simply enlisting doesn't make anyone a "hero", that's just the pathetic myth that U$ culture panders to.

And it's no more "service" than any other PAID JOB. Volunteering for the Peace Corps, or Doctors Without Borders or the American Red Cross ... that would be SERVING one's country, or serving humanity as a whole.

Drawing a government paycheck as another cog in the Military Industrial Complex or the Prison Industrial Complex ain't "service".

Cut the bullshit, no one with half a brain believes that faux-patriotic hype anymore.

@DonkeyHotay

Don, it seems like those who are the most critical of military veterans and police officers are those who have never served as either. In many cases their concerns are based on ignorance, instead of reality. I have liked Sen, McCain over the years but certainly don't agree with all he has said and done. I don't think any person can be an effective leader if they simply nod to their party and don't have the ability to think on their own. I don't expect that Sen McCain is the least bit concerned about being censured by the local party... and perhaps not even the state or national party. I would also guess that the local county sheriff and at least one former disgraced state senator are behind this censure, since the senator publicly challenged them both...

@andrewgage @fishingblues @robert_grahamcracker  "While we sit here and debate back and forth and work ourselves and each other into a froth, they sit back and collect the paychecks." for doing nothing, like we witnessed today in the state legislature. What did they accomplish today except stoking egos. Sick when there are so many crises that need immediate attention.

andrewgage
andrewgage

@fishingblues @robert_grahamcracker Uh, are you SURE about that? Because as an independent, I see the Republican party exactly as you've described the Democrats. They only care about the health of their personal pocketbooks. Money corrupts politics. And yet who has been pushing the hardest to keep the money in Washington? The GOP.

On the other hand, the Democrats (including the President) are a bunch of wimps who can't manage to get anything done even without opposition.

And one party is no more or less corrupt than the other. Stand back, take an objective look at both parties (yeah, I know, asking for the impossible here), and you'll see the game that they are playing with us. While we sit here and debate back and forth and work ourselves and each other into a froth, they sit back and collect the paychecks.
