Joe Arpaio Says He's "Not Concerned" About Monitor

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who's been fighting the placement of a monitor in his office for about two years now, said today that he's "not concerned" about the monitor selected to watch over his office.

As a result of the Melendres v. Arpaio civil-rights case, U.S. District Court Judge G. Murray Snow appointed Robert Warshaw to monitor MCSO. Warshaw's the former chief of the Rochester (New York) Police Department, and was a deputy drug czar in the Clinton Administration.

"I'm not concerned about a monitor," Arpaio said this afternoon. "I've been monitored by the White House, Justice Department, the ACLU, the media, and my wife."

Note that three entities listed there -- the DoJ, the ACLU, and members of the media -- have sued Arpaio in recent years as a result of their monitoring, and two have them have won, while the DoJ's case is still pending.

Arpaio's legal team has fought monitors in both the federal racial-profiling case, and in the Melendres racial-profiling case.

Arpaio and his legal team have claimed that a monitor would take his power as the elected sheriff. Arpaio attorney Tom Liddy (son of the infamous G. Gordon Liddy) played off the monitor appointment like it was no big deal, saying the monitor's power is "very limited." Although the ACLU proposed Warshaw as the monitor, Liddy claimed it wouldn't be accurate to say Warshaw's the "ACLU's guy."

Of course, Liddy said they're still appealing Judge Snow's decision, and his order.

Arpaio, meanwhile, still insisted today that his deputies don't racially profile.

This despite MCSO issuing a press release just yesterday that essentially blamed Immigration and Customs Enforcement for the deputies' racial profiling:

"Arpaio [says] in his letter to Attorney General Holder that it was the training and instruction given to his deputies by ICE officials during a five week long course led by ICE officials on how to enforce immigration laws that provided the basis for which deputies were later accused of racially bias policing," the press release said.

Either way, Arpaio conceded that he's going to try to get along with the monitor.

"We'll work with him and see what happens," he said.

Arpaio added that he doesn't know anything about Warshaw, but just learned about him from some news articles on "the internets."

The spiteful old man must be really worried about what the monitor will find.

If I were a betting man, $20 says even more corruption than what we already know.

Between his misspending $111M from the jail enhancement fund and all his other bullshit, we're closing in on $600M. And just wait until all the other lawsuits (about 6,000-10,000) are resolved....

How could Old Joe read about the monitor on "the internets" when Old Joe swears he doesn't know how to use a computer and probably reads at the 3rd grade level?

He probably had his poodle trimming PR hack read the articles to him.

"I'm not worried about it, I'm just going to spend a buttload of YOUR money to fight it any way I can, even though I know it won't work, but I'm still going to do it... because I'm not worried about it....at all.. I swear..."

@WhoKnows i dont know if that month would be considered optimistic or pessimistic (depends on who you are)...................i just feel that month is just a bit on the long side of an estimate (besides, we already have the crying child........................JAFfy)

@Flyer9753 he's not concerned, but he feels that a monitor may take away some of his authority....................um? that sounds like a concern doesnt it?

Its the concern of all the Mussolini corrupt throwbacks that we haven't been lucky enough to have die off yet.

Arpaio' day is coming soon...and the sooner the better.

@Cozz i know its only a portion of what he has cost us, and i know how much damage he has wrought. i also know of the thousands of cases still pending. the thing i dont know is just how long we will still be dealing with the aftermath of "Hurricane Joe" even after he is long gone. i dont even think they have fully recovered from "Hurricane Katrina" and that wasnt a 20 year ordeal

@danzigsdaddy

This is only one portion of what Bozo Joe has cost everyone that lives in Maricopa County.

Lets not forget all the deaths, destruction and misspending that has also happened that have resulted in 10's of millions of dollars being paid out to victims of his abuse. None of which I will accept any blame for.

Whats happening with this situation will have no effect on the thousands of civil suits pending in courts that will continue to cost tax payers millions more long after Arpaio is 6' under...which did I mention, can't come soon enough, :-)

@Cozz heres my standing on the $21m to $51m this is going to cost.................i am okay with it. i truly wish we didnt have to pay it, but if it is putting things in check finally, it is an amount i am going to have to be okay with. i supported the measures and lengths they were pushing for to put Joe in check, so i am partly responsible for the cost that it will incur. all the other costs that Joe has racked up though?? i was never behind that and i dont feel i should be one of the people who is hit with it. someone told me a saying once that applies here. i loaned someone money and that was a mistake.. my friend looked at me and said "if all you are out is that amount...............its a bargain. it could have been more and you are now done with that person. if thats all it cost, be glad" i think that applies here. if this money will correct things and possibly slow down all the lawsuits....................i am good with that (of course, we arent 100% sure that it will yet, but its a start)

@danzigsdaddy

What this situation has cost is a drop in the bucket of what Arpaio has cost the tax payers of Maricopa County with his never ending bullshit and corruption, but with Arpaio, throwing rocks in a glass house is what Bozo Joe is all about.

danzigsdaddy

@Cozz all time classic statement in a letter by Joe to Holder "it is neither appropriate nor fair that the taxpayers of Maricopa County be responsible for the costs and expenses incurred in this matter"          HOLY SHIT JOE!!!!! thats what we have been saying all along...............maybe we can get that letter from Holder and cross out his name and put Joe's in its place and return the letter. maybe if Joe likes the author of the letter he will listen to what it says

@TommyCollins @danzigsdaddy @Cozz It's been a few weeks since Joke has claimed he got a death threat.

That's often his "go to" when he wants to distract the public from his own screw ups.
