Since the week of Thanksgiving, nearly 1,000 people around Arizona have been arrested for DUI by one of the DUI task forces around the state.

These task forces operate from late November through the end of the year (as they have in previous years), and stats from the Governor's Office of Highway safety show a yearly average of around 4,000 DUI arrests for these end-of-year task forces.

New Times posts the locations of such patrols in the Valley every Friday the GOHS makes them available. The DUI task forces are only required to report this information for specific time-frames, which includes every weekend in December.

Thus far, there have been 18,561 traffic stops by these task forces since November 25. Cops found 498 sober designated drivers, but 971 allegedly drunk or drugged drivers -- 251 of whom qualified for an "extreme" DUI charge.

These task forces, made up of nearly 3,000 cops, have also given out some other citations, including nearly 300 criminal speeding tickets, nearly 400 seat-belt tickets, and 24 "aggressive driving" citations.

Since the beginning of the year, there have been more than 23,000 DUI arrests during these DUI enforcement operations. There were more than 30,000 arrests in both 2011 and 2012.

Everyone wants the hardcore drunk off the road....people driving at .08 leaving a happy hour, which is nearly everybody, are not drunk but the government found a way to collect even more money from its citizens while fat Mother Fs against Drunk Driving hens cried and some of you saps bought it...now you've got bars going under, people unemployed, and more and more people going home to watch the Kardashians or American Idol.

Are DUI drug arrests broken by type of drug?

You shouldn't regardless of the time of year. I think every new driver should sit through a MADD presentation. They will think differently. It is NEVER okay to drink and drive. Guess what I do if I don't have a safe ride home? I FUCKING STAY AT HOME. Idiots.

Attention! Turn on brain before posting on issues like the one before us! Thanks for posting that you have a habit of driving drunk!

Says the average BAC is .142.  That's an average almost double the legal limit, so I would say most of the people probably were drunk.
