With the temperatures around Phoenix dropping below a million degrees, the snowbirds from the north are making their annual migration to the Valley of the Sun.

For those of us who live here year-round, that only means that life is going to be more of a hassle, thanks to the sudden influx of Canadians and Midwesterners. Get prepared, as we outline the 10 worst things about snowbirds:

10.) Restaurants

How can snowbirds possibly clog restaurants when they eat at 4 p.m.? Three hours and five cups of decaf coffee later, the mystery is solved, as you're still waiting to eat at a place that looks like a ghost town in the summer.

Is this a rant against snowbirds or a thinly-veiled rant against old people?

This is a disgusting article.  The snowbirds should take their money elsewhere.

They infuse a lot of $$ into this state..but add to a lot of traffic woes-- no big deal either way

I know two snowbirds who winter in Nome, AK and winter in East Mesa. They were my neighbors when I grew up and I love them dearly, but they don't change my opinion as a whole.

The New Times is known to be kind of edgy, and this blog was probably meant as satire. If it offends you, simply stop reading it! That's the beauty of books and computers, if you don't like it, you can put it down and stop.

At the same time Courtney, not every single one of the Cadillacs doing 10 mph under the speed limit is being driven by a man who stormed Omaha Beach.

Alaskan, you are inappropriately applying a stereotype to an entire generation. There were some people of that generation who "spat at Jackie Robinson for playing a white sport," - true. Yet, there are many who didn't. There are many who survived wars, and many who fought for our country and other countries. The underlying problem with your comment and the author of this post applies a generalized stereotype to people due to their age. I am not saying all snowbirds are perfect. No one's generation is, but regardless...there should be a respect for our aging citizens.

if you are driving slower than the posted speed limit, stay OUT of the left lane!!! and use your turn signal (and remember to turn it off!)

This is horrible. Thank God we all don't feel that way about Snowbirds! Disrespectful to all Seniors. I thought the article was going to be funny.

Too many people would rather dump on others rather than look at themselves. People up here in Montana say the same thing about Arizona drivers in the summertime. Birch, birch, bitch. - the secret of happiness is GRATITUDE! I am grateful for anyone from anywhere uses their turn signal.

I thought this would be funny but its hateful and really more ageist then anything else. How old are you and why do you have such anger? Sounds more like you are jealous of these folks because they have the means to come out here and pump money into this right to work state economy which pays people minimum wage at best. I'm no fan of snowbirds from the standpoint of congestion and longer waits everywhere but be thankful at sports venues that they come to support their home teams otherwise we might not have home teams considering the W-L records of our teams. Some of your remarks are trivial and mean but I think it's because you are just unhappy so maybe you should go out east and see that it's really not that awful...people there are a lot friendlier then you, better writers and funnier too. They have schools systems supported by the people who don't mind paying taxes to educate their youth. Bottom Line: most of your articles are so much more insightful, humorous, or just plain better on all levels. #justtellinlikeitis

This is an incredibly insensitive and disrespectful article. How about respectingyour elders, or were you not taught common courtesy? Our elder generation are some the nicest, most interesting people I've ever met. I enjoy when they come into my store & share thier stories and bits of wisdom while shopping. My favorite is a 94 year old WWII Vet!

They're human beings, and they've lived long lives. They deserve to travel without people being so hateful toward them. They're going too slow? Go around them. Humanity, people.

Don't cast stones at snowbirds. I'm sure the folks in Flagstaff and San Diego feel the same about us in July.

Courtney Smith

I plan on writing a comment addressing this insensitive, ridiculous article. Suffice it to say, the author of this post has no respect for his elders, many of whom are veterans and part of the greatest generation. Sure, the snowbirds may be known for their poor driving, but I would rather share the road with them, than a twenty something who checks his phone every five minutes while driving. As for snowbirds just "standing around" - they have earned it. Their generation worked their butts off and didn't complain about things like not having the latest OS on their phone. This article makes me sad as it shows the total disconnect between generations, while displaying a "me me me" mentality. And yes, I lived in AZ for 6 years, and never once felt inconvenienced by a snowbird. Quite the contrary, they remind me of where we all came from and that they have seen wars and things our generation has never seen.

that guy was rediculous I highly doubt his 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000397% conturmbuting to the economy is helping Phoenix out lol

Snowbirds as a group aren't worse drivers than year-round Arizona residents as a group, but they increase the volume of bad drivers on the roads. Actually, most of the things cited in the linked article fall into the same category of "not any worse than year-round Arizonans, they just increase the density of bad [whatever] when they're here".
