Mass Shooting in Glendale Stopped by Armed Citizen, According to Gun Enthusiasts

A Glendale man who apparently threatened people with an assault rifle at a party last month was shot and killed by an armed partygoer.

We checked back in on the case after discovering that gun enthusiasts have hailed the shooter, whom police have identified as 39-year-old James Rakes, as a hero who stopped a "mass shooting."

Literally dozens (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, for starters) of blogs glorify the man, based on the few facts about the shooting released by police at the time, claiming that a "mass shooting" (some call it a "possible mass shooting") had been stopped.

How much better is a rifle than no gun? Your delusion that the government has a monopoly of force is the only delusion apparent from either side in this argument. That is not a fact, that is an opinion based on your belief in the infallability of guns. Go back to the 4th grade and review the difference between fact and opinion. If you want to show that it's a fact then you will have to figure out how many innocent people have been killed or maimed with guns and compare that with how many perpetrators have been killed or thwarted with guns. I would bet that more innocent people have been hurt by guns than bad people.

well, the public and bloggers can speculate all they want. Those who are paid to do their jobs that are directly involved in the case, cannot. That is the beauty of being an American. But I will have to say, that if gun loving bloggers and supporters are calling this a "mass shooting stopped", it shows a prime example of the low intellect of the far right way of thinking. Because "mass shooting stopped" would imply that a mass shooting was already in process, and I would expect to hear on the news about bodies being hit and so forth. The majority of Americans are not stupid. They know that the far right use a minor example of self-protection like this and blow it out of proportion then what it really was just to benefit their personal agendas. AS THE AUTHORITIES SAID, it was a POSSIBLE thwarting of a mass shooting, and NOT a mass shooting in progress. Bottom line tho, as I do believe in gun rights and the ability to protect oneself, the man who shot the guy with the assault rifle was in the right to protect himself and the patrons of he house party whose lives were in immediate danger. But please Teabaggers, stop milking it already for more then what it is. That's why you are all drowning in your ignorance and have personally destroyed the republican party. Lets boil this one down to the bottom of the pot without all the vitriol. Man aims a gun and shoots at citizens. People just like you. Just like me. Just like friends and family and loved ones. @Cameron Stewart Actually selling guns only to responsible people works too. How much do you want to bet the guy with the assault rifle bought the gun legally and if proper background checks were mandatory and enforced he never would have owned that rifle. I am a proud gun owner but that does not mean I think crazy people should be allowed to go to the corner store and buy a semi auto .308.

He didn't shoot at ppl he was just trying to scare them even if he did make a bad choice. He didn't deserve to be killed like he was. The news talk about the first thing they here..then when they now more they just add to it. He shot two bullets that's it one in the air then one on the floor. If they think he was aiming at party goers he probably wasn't paying attention except the three ppl that had guns pointed at him.
