Phoenix Man Scared of Alice Cooper's Restaurant Goes on Window-Smashing Spree

A Phoenix man smashed more than $10,000 worth of windows after apparently getting scared of Alice Cooper's restaurant, Alice Cooperstown.

According to court documents obtained by New Times, 22-year-old Joseph Urango got spooked after looking in the windows of Alice Cooperstown, at First Street and Jackson, believing he saw "murderers" inside.

Police got a call of a man breaking windows at businesses, and officers spotted Urango trying to kick in some glass doors around Third Avenue and Lincoln Street.

Urango didn't hesitate to tell officers that he smashed in at least 10 other windows in the area, and officers drove Urango around the neighborhood, as he pointed out which ones he was responsible for.

Court documents indicate the damage is "well over" $10,000.

But why did he do it?

A police officer's probable-cause statement explains it:
He stated he was standing at Alice Cooper's restaurant and noticed murderers in the windows. He stated he walked off westbound and the murderers were following him. He added he threw rocks [through] the windows at 15 W. Jackson St. and 22 W. Jackson St. in order to get rid of the murderers, but they still followed him.
Based on the addresses provided in the court documents, it looks like Alice Cooperstown went unharmed (there's also no indication Alice Cooper is harboring murderers in his restaurant).

Urango told police he didn't have any money to pay for the repairs, but did say we would "shoot it out [with] everyone once he was released from jail," according to court documents.

Urango, who has an arson conviction on his record, was booked into jail on multiple criminal-damage charges.

You all are mean an pathetic. He is really mentally ill. It's not his fault.  And you people aren't making it any better. He will get help and support. And he's growing his hair out, so quit hating. People that judge sicken me. He's my brother ok.... I'm not lying either. So knock it off!!! :(

He is obviously pretending to be mentally ill. Why else would somebody attack a government building?

He is obviously, mentally ill.  Arpaio's Terror Squad, will probably, still throw him in 4th avenue.  Bastards.

P.S. It also says a lot about the guy's mental capacity when he has a mullet. Seriously, probably not exactly the smartest of fellows. I think a nice lengthy stay in the grey-bar hotel, without meth (and hopefully he'll cut that hideous mullet) ought to set him straight...maybe.

And that, boys and girls is precisely why meth (especially when combined with pre-existing stupidity) is most undesirable.

Take to jail? Take him in for mental evaluation quick, he's delusional.  Anyone who "sees murderers" can imagine anything and we don't want him getting hold of a gun yikes.

It's so uncharacteristic of a terrified Arizonan to break windows. Normally they shoot people.

How bout' they put you in a mental hospital.... Exactly, stfu!!! He's my bro and he didn't mean to do what he did. People make mistakes in life... So leave him alone

@66rock I'd bet you anything he'd been up for days (or weeks) on a meth binge and was hallucinating. This is sadly becoming increasingly more common and is beginning to warrant more news coverage, as the incidents grow in frequency.

Let's be aware of out surroundings and any strange people we encounter, as it might be that awareness that contributes to stopping someone like this from hurting others or damaging private property.

He's not a menace to society... So back off

@Ken Jacobsen

Actually, they break things like windows much more often than they shoot people.  It's just that breaking windows doesn't make the news unless you're particularly enthusiastic about it and have an interesting story.

It's a mistake to try to judge how often certain types of events happen based on how often you read headlines about them.

He doesn't do meth, he is just mentally ill. So stfu if you don't know personally what he's going through... :(

@valleynative Interesting; I thought all Arizonans went around just firing off guns left and right and shooting random folks for fun all day. :)
