This government shutdown seems to be causing very serious problems for some Americans.

In fact, a 26-year-old Phoenix man arrested for marijuana possession told police that he was just smoking pot because the shutdown was stressing him out too much, according to court documents obtained by New Times.

Jawaun Taylor was pulled over for a traffic violation near 35th and Northern avenues and placed under arrest for not providing ID, according to the documents.

Police allege a "strong odor" of marijuana was coming from the car, and police found a bag of weed in Taylor's shirt pocket after searching him, the documents state.

Taylor "stated he was stressed out due to the government shutdown and had to smoke some weed," a probable-cause statement says.

It's not exactly clear what part of the shutdown he was worried about, since court filings indicate Taylor's employed full-time by a private company and told pre-trial services that he doesn't receive any government benefits.

Taylor, who did not have a medical-marijuana card, was booked into jail on the felony marijuana-possession charge.

Don't mention the felony that's now on the record of the job-holding citizen who doesn't receive any government benefits...

Good thing my money is being stolen at gun point to pay for arresting some guy that had a bag with some plants in it. That's what I like losing 20% of my paycheck every month for. Valuable things.

How could he be guilty of "felony possession" if the weed was found in his shirt pocket? Did he have like QP shoved in that little tiny pocket? Oh wait I see, it's a black dude...

I agree with your page. We should send everyone from Europe right back where they came from. This land is for Native Americans only. We stole it from them illegally. No Amnesty for white people.

I find myself wondering if he's one of those idiots who thought that since the government is shut down, nobody's enforcing drug laws.   Then when it became clear that this isn't the case, he changed his story slightly.

So, because the Food and Drug Administration lists cannabis on it's Schedule 1, this man will now lose his job, go to jail, become a burden on society, and probably have to go to some lame ass counseling for his probation.  All because of the Government SHUTDOWN!!!! Those damn nasty - assed Republicants, hope they rot in hell.

Hell, you should arrest them Republicants for smoking pot!  You can tell they are cause they say shite like this:

"As of today the United States is willingly, knowingly, intentionally sending arms to terrorists [in Syria]. Now what this says to me -- I'm a believer in Jesus Christ; as I look at the end times scripture, this says to me that the leaf is on the fig tree and we are to understand the signs of the times, which is your ministry. We are to understand where we are in God's end times history. This isn't to cause us fear...Rather than seeing it as a negative, we need to rejoice. Maranatha, Come Lord Jesus. His day is at hand."

Rep. Michele Bachmann

@Joe Ploskonka "Native Americans" are not native to america. They come from Asia and migrated to America. So send them back to Asia while you're at it.

@Christopher King @Christopher King He did not get pulled over for weed genius.  Obviously, if he would not have been violating the trafiic laws and had a valid ID, he would never have been arrested for violating the laws governing marijuana.  Needless to say, he was lucky to not also be charged with DUI. If he was not impaired then why could he not follow the traffic laws? #fuckstonersdrunksandaddicts

@ExpertShot Obama has the direct power to remove cannabis from its current federal scheduling under the Controlled Substances Act. Eric Holder and Obama are still targeting Marijuana users, growers, dispensaries and anyone else associated with the "drug" regardless of state MMJ laws. As long as we keep voting democrats and republicans into office, this what we can expect to get.

@ExpertShot Well by now you should know your "GOD" is dead and isn't coming back anytime soon. Try believing in Santa or the Easter Bunny. At least you can find Them at the malls once a year. Where is god all dressed up at? Oh right, the little boys room, molesting away......Who do you think taught the Priests?

@ExpertShot

Please don't tar all Republicans along with the religious right lunatics.

While pot should at least be decriminalized, this idiot is far more responsible for his troubles than Congress is, since he's the one who chose to drive with his head up his ass while smoking.

@valleynative @ExpertShot Did you even read the article?  He wasn't ticketed for a DUI, he was arrested for failure to provide ID.  We don't know if the cop planted the evidence on him and made up the statement about having weed in his possession of not yet.

As far as not blaming all Republicants for the radicalism of a few, I'll stop blaming all Republicants when they start policing their own instead of letting them run rampant and ruining this country's economy.  Like the anti-muslim wing of the Republicants complaining about how other "non-radical" muslims don't condemn the actions of a few (well, they do - Republicants just lie and say they don't).  However, I'd like to hear you call out Bachman for her bull shite - just once.

You say you'd like to hear me call out Bachman for her bullshit - just once.

So I guess you stopped reading before you got to the part where I called her a religious right lunatic.

Although I'm not a Republican, so it's sort of off topic.

@ExpertShot

Did you even read my post?  I never mentioned DUI.  He wasn't pulled over for not having ID, he was pulled over for driving badly.  I believe another article (or an earlier version of this one) said he had been swerving.

I stopped taking you seriously when you suggested that the cop planted the weed, but really, the argument "I'll stop being prejudiced against ALL members of [a group I hate irrationally] when they begin to police their own"   is the dumbest thing you're going to read in comment sections, whether it's being applied to Republicans, Muslims, or Hispanics.  It's just hopelessly stupid.
