Muslim Museum: Hoax News Story Has Been Good for Us

It turns out hoax news reports can do more than make people look really stupid.

A Phoenix media hoaxer "reported" a couple of weeks ago that President Obama was funding a Muslim museum out of his own pocket during the government shutdown, which a Fox News host repeated as fact on-air. The director of that museum does not appear to be upset by this at all.

Although it sounds as if it should be part of the hoax, it's true that there's a museum of Muslim culture in the deep South. International Museum of Muslim Cultures co-founder Okolo Rashid issued a press release stating that it "would be a wonderful thing" if Obama were really funding the museum out of his own pocket, but he's not.

(Yes, we used Google Maps to make sure this place existed, and that the hoaxer, Paul Horner, wasn't pulling an extremely complicated hoax on us.)

"This story, however, got even greater fame on Saturday when Fox News' Fox and Friends morning program host Anna Kooiman repeated the National Report storyline about President Obama going into his own pockets to support the Museum," the press release states. "Although Ms. Kooiman has since apologized on tweeter [sic] for what she called 'flawed research,' this created a news frenzy that has been good for IMMC."

The museum's not federally funded to begin with, but is more than willing to take your donations through its website.

What if Horner, our local media-hoaxer, is just trying to do good deeds? Because of him, Fox News made an on-air apology -- something we haven't seen on that channel since they aired a man's suicide on live TV.

You can read the museum's statement in full on the next page:

I like muslims because the only people that they want to behead more than me are the lowly immoral libtards.

Wow, so now Mississippi is more culturally advanced than Arizona.

Congratulations Arizona. You have now officially won the race to the bottom.

One museum makes them more culturally advanced?

Don't let common sense get in the way of your opinions.

@valleynative,

Tell me, what do you think would happen if somebody opened up this type of museum in Arizona?

My "Common sense" tells me that  some of Arizona's more "advanced" citizens would show up with Confederate flags and torches.  Leaders like Russell Pearce, Trent Franks and Brenda Barton would be leading the pack.

@valleynative @shadeaux14 Then what DOES make them more culturally advanced - you seem to know the answer through the "question" you posed above.

@valleynative @shadeaux14 Right! Did you conveniently forget the Buddhist temple massacre? Meanwhile, Brewer has shuttered no less than two museums... Arizona is backward... denial changes nothing!

@valleynative @shadeaux14 Did you conveniently forget about the Buddhist temple massacre? Meanwhile, Brewer and company have shuttered at least two museums in recent years. You lose this argument hands down!

@shadeaux14 We know exactly what would happen... did we forget about the Buddhist temple massacre?

You seem to have forgotten what your point was.

You claimed that this museum shows that we've dropped past Mississippi in culture.  History going back to Mecham doesn't speak to the current comparison of our cultures.

@valleynative, This is a state where, for the last 3 decades Arizonans have consistently elected the likes of Ev Mecham, Fife Symington, Jane Hull, Russell Pearce, Joe Arpaio-5 times-  Jan Brewer. and Brenda Barton.

I think that these "leaders" prove my point quite nicely. Only a backwards population would consistently elect backwards leadership.

Oh wait, I forgot Andrew Thomas, Tom Horne, Bill Montgomery, and Jeff Grosscost .

They're not only backwards, they're stupid to boot.

@shadeaux14

There are Muslim cultural events in Phoenix several times per year.  I don't recall any protests.

Your guesses about how backward Arizona is aren't really evidence of how backward Arizona is.

It's not arrogance when it's so clearly true.  I don't make a big deal of it.  For a long time I've just corrected your nonsense.  But if you want to go and make a big deal about how much I know, I think that opens the door for me to say "Yes, I do know a lot of things", and if you want to point out that I correct you a lot, then I'll admit that I'm very clearly smarter than you.  You have a problem with that, but you need to own that problem.  It's not mine.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Wow..

"I happen to be more knowledgeable and much smarter than you."

Arrogant much Valley???

Valley, there is a wonderful saying you need to learn:

It's often better to say nothing and be thought a fool, rather than speaking and proving you are a fool

Clearly you have never learned that important life lesson.

Flyer, I happen to be more knowledgeable and much smarter than you.  Sorry if you find that to be painful.  I'd think you'd be used to that situation by this point in your life.

If you think I'm mistaken, then rather than mock me, you could just point out where I'm wrong.

What have you got?

Now Expert, have you forgotten... Didn't you know... Valley is THE EXPERT on everything!

Doesn't matter what it is, Valley is the person to answer it or to correct your (and everyones) answer with their correct one.

Valley knows all the laws, knows how everyone thinks and definitely knows what makes a society more culturally advanced.. Valleys job in life is to correct everyone else from their incorrectness

I don't know why the rest of us are even on these blogs or why NT publishes any stories... Valley knows it all, could write them all, comment on them all, etc..

No, you don't seem to have understood my question.

I'm questioning the fact that, in shadeaux's biased mind, one museum justifies saying that they are more advanced.

Clearly it doesn't.

There's no valid way of parsing my question in English that suggests that I believe that Mississippi is more culturally advanced.
