Political Blows Still Flying In District 4 as Justin Johnson, Laura Pastor Enter Final Leg of Race

Justin Johnson and Laura Pastor, candidates in the Phoenix City Council District 4 race, continued delivering some hefty jabs at each other as early voting got underway on Thursday.

Johnson, the son of former Phoenix Mayor Paul Johnson, faces criticism over family properties that are vacant eye sores, for being vague about his family's numerous Valley corporations, and for casting favorable votes on development projects represented by the same individuals hosting a campaign fundraiser for him.

And, probably the most damning criticism stems from his own words during a candidate forum -- at which he admitted to donating money to every council member to grease the wheels, or as he put it, "make things smoother," for his development projects.

It's not a good look for Johnson, a member of the city's Planning Commission.

Johnson is hoping to beat out Pastor, who is the daughter of Congressman Ed Pastor. And she's had her fair share of criticism in this election, and previous ones, because of it.

During the August election, someone sent out a this flier:

But, the same could be said of Justin Johnson, a 32-year-old businessman who has only worked in his father's shadow.

And the likes of Wayne Howard and Paul Gilbert aren't likely tossing their support behind Johnson because of all that he's accomplished. It's all about close relationships they have with his father, and the political connections they bring -- and the new ones they can create.

Honestly, neither. Both have run an extremely negative campaign against one another, and the process has turned me off.

At this point I don't really care. I'm just sick of all the robo-calls. I'll be glad when its over.

I wish these kids would play nice. It's getting to where I'm not really liking either. That said, the article is really slanted (in a negative way) against Johnson. I'd like to add that he's been to my house twice, his father once, a cousin twice and an uncle once, and has replied to emails which tells me that at least he wants the job. Laura Pastor has sent one campaign aide one time but mails hit pieces every day. That's been my experience anyway. Oh yeah, FRONTERA, it's not her district. It's the residents district.

If Pastor is anything like her father, then private sector jobs will disappear, property values will decline, the federal guns and badges will run all over the constitution, all the while she will be lining her pockets with tax payer $. peace

I believe PASTOR would represent her District much better.

@james8394 Makes you think he doesn't even have a job. So much for "working hard".

@james8394 frontera just picks the swarthiest candidate in any district, and doesn't think that they'd be the best, but rather believes it.
