Joe Arpaio Pretends to Do Police Work During Sweep (Video)

MCSO
Sheriff Joe Arpaio engaging in alleged "crime suppression."

Sheriff Joe Arpaio almost performed actual police work during his office's questionable sweep last week.

Instead, as seen in a video released by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, Arpaio rode along on traffic stops, which turned into photo-ops.

As you can see in the video above, the sergeant who's giving Arpaio the ride-along took over Arpaio's attempted traffic stop after about seven seconds.

It quickly turned back into a meet-and-greet with the elderly sheriff, resulting in some picture-taking.

Arpaio alleged the purpose of this sweep was to be some sort of response to the murder of MCSO detention officer Jorge Vargas. Interestingly, that doesn't seem to be what's depicted in the video above.

Of course, no one would actually expect the elderly sheriff to arrest anyone. When was Arpaio's last arrest? His likely imaginary arrest of Elvis back in '57?

Both Jose and the deputy broke training by approaching the stopped vehicle forward of the door handle. The first contact should be made standing at or behind the door handle. They are always whining about "officer safety" when they shoot an unarmed citizen, yet they are not supposed to put themselves right up in harm's way... geez. LoL

Joe is an idiot. You never extend your gun hand away from your gun. Surprised nobody has grabbed his gun and shot him.

Arpaio will go down in history as a modern day version of sheriff Bull Conner's, and will likely end his days the same unrepentant to the very bitter end and very likely will end in same place shoveling coal on that eternal lake of fire whining about how unfair it is he ended up there for all eternity with many he locked up who like him refused to repent and have that come to Jesus moment!

Joe is a shame to Arizona.  He is proud to call a press conference every time he violates or intends to violate someone's constitutional rights.... He is a nut job.  Most of his deputies are good men, despite their boss is an ego maniac that should not hold public office.

WTF????, Is that d way that a potential criminal's car should b approached? d way he is doing it in d video...also it looks as if d MOFCKR, is drunk or something, he is like wobbling all over. Had that been an actual criminal or a gangbanger his ass should've been shot....fucking bullshiit.....wait a minute, what d fuck am i saying..probably that was Jaffy or d GOATKEEPER driving on that stop showed in d video.....perhaps that stop was stagged, thus d OLD FART can show his ability 2 conduct a criminal's stop & possible arrest without taking any risk, probably a perfectly flat area was chosen,  thus d IMBECILE WOULDN'T TRIP.

This MANEUVER,-d way he approached d vehicle- could b used to teach future LEOs...LMAO. N-WAY, all that shit is more MEDIA WHORING than a "crime suppression"...i mean, all those asskissers asking 4 a picture 2 b taken with him and his MASSIVE DICKHEAD, not 2 mention that even HE was suggesting 4 pictures 2 b taken.

D Mother Fucker deserves his ass beign dragged 2 court..bitch slapp him with CONTEMPT, better yet, PUT HIS ASS IN FEDERAL PRISON, where he and his bitch JAFfy belong.

I can't wait to get Judge Snow's opinion on this. You can bet that he will be PISSED and he will order it to stop.

He is too old to do anything but sit behind a desk. If he actually did police work he would probably fall over with a heart attack.

Its too bad that Sheriffs, and Deputies aren't required to be fit enough to do one sit up, or a pull up?!!

What a disgrace to Law enforcement.

I wonder how many folks thought they were at an auction for Pot Bellies?

Get some M.C.S.O. exercise bikes?!!

The County must spend a fortune on vehicle springs, and shocks?

Joke Arpaio isn't POST certified is he? (Is he even capable of being POST certified?)

If he is not POST certified, is he allowed to make arrests?

Actually, I don't see anything new in this story because he's been pretending to do police work for over 20 years.

If I recall correctly I think the original story about Elvis was that the old guy (much younger then, of course) was a member of Las Vegas P.D. and made a traffic stop on Elvis. I don't recall any mention of arrest.

JA: "Now what is this called, again?"

SGT: "It's called a traffic stop, Shurf. It's what we do to make arrests on certain people we don't like. You might remember that you told us to do this".

That profile shot of the elderly elected official is NOT what I think a sheriff should look like. Even the PCSO shurf looks better than this geriatric goon.

robert_graham

Oh pleeze. You'll think of anything to say to criticize Sheriff Joe. But talk about pretending, it is you who is pretending to give us news but instead give us shit.

@FJOSEARPYASO

While he is not AZPost certified, his powers come from the Arizona Constitution as an elected official.

He can make arrests and he can carry a firearm

Unfortunately

@FJOSEARPYASO He's NOT AZ Post, and can't do anything a normal citizen can't do.

@robert_graham If Mr. Hendley wrote it, then it must be true. Yes, I would open my umbrella if he wrote that the sky was falling. Do you have any idea, Robert, how heavy air is when it falls?

Flyer9753
Flyer9753 topcommenter

@TommyCollins According to the story, he made a traffic stop on Elvis that resulted in him arresting him and taking him to the station where he was released.

None of this can be confirmed, except by Joe.

whoknows is the same moron who stated incessantly that arpaio cant carry a gun. obviously the video shows otherwise.

the sheriff is the supreme law enforcement officer in their respective county and absolutely have the authority to effect arrests.

@robert_graham @danzigsdaddy Did that apply to Melendrez? Where he was stopped for NO REASON, ACTUALLY and detained for over two hours. During that time his elderly father was refused a bathroom break and he had to piss his pants. Which is why Joe is about to get a minder.

TommyCollins
TommyCollins topcommenter

@yourproductsucks2 I'm shocked... but please keep in mind the old guy doesn't seem to know the distinction between reasonable suspicion and probable cause, either. I doubt he seriously thinks anyone would actually harm him. Complacency can lead to bad things. Damn near got me killed once.

@yourproductsucks2 You must be experiencing a warm spot in your heart now. The elderly elected official was out there working hard on patrol with you girls and boys the other night. What did you learn from him?

Says a lot and none of it good.

@yourproductsucks2, what a moronic comment, is well known that d POOPER CLOWN SHURF doesn't comply with almost everything, why would he complay this time.

"the sheriff is the supreme law enforcement officer in their respective county and absolutely have the authority to effect arrests".. it seems 2 me that Judge Snow can "effects" d OLD FART's AUTHORITY, and he's about 2 BITCH SLAP that clown again, hopefuly 4 good....holding his ass in contempt, better yet, kick his ass out of office.

@tgstkmop @eric.nelson745 That's fun to contemplate but I doubt they would put him in his own jail. They would probably put him in home detention. Now if by some weird chance that he might be hit with federal charges (I don't know what those might be), they might put him in the federal halfway house on Roosevelt. It would be funny seeing him having to report to a Pretrial officer. But, ya know, he'd resign in lieu of that happening.

tgstkmop
tgstkmop

@eric.nelson745

It would be, awesome if Arpaio got sent to Fourth Avenue jail for contempt of court.  He would, get preferable treatment of course, but maybe they could send him somewhere else.

TommyCollins
TommyCollins topcommenter

@eric.nelson745 Eric, I think Melendrez is based on another case. The one you're thinking about happened in south Phoenix or Guadalupe. I believe Melendrez was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped during one of the 'illegal immigrant enforcement' sweeps, before he changed it to 'employer sanction' sweeps.
