A Glendale man is facing prison time thanks to being tagged in a photograph on Facebook.

Augustine Escobar, 40, is a convicted felon, and is not allowed to have any firearms. According to court documents obtained by New Times, an officer cruising Escobar's publicly viewable Facebook profile found a photo of Escobar posing with an AR-15 rifle, which had a drum magazine attached.

In addition to that photo, there were also videos of Escobar handling and firing two Glock handguns, as well as a sawed-off shotgun, according to the documents.

Although Escobar was tagged in the various photos and videos between January 2011 and January 2012, police only recently found them, and arrested Escobar.

According to court documents, Escobar admitted to possessing and firing the weapons in Buckeye, near Interstate 10, in January 2011. He confirmed that the AR-15 was real and functioning, and posed for the picture at his buddy's house in Buckeye.

Although Escobar is no longer tagged in the photo, his buddy still has it publicly available on Facebook:

Police allege that's Escobar in the middle.

Escobar admitted he was a convicted felon when he had the guns in his possession, according to court documents. Escobar, whom police allege is a "Mexican Mafia associate," was booked into jail on four felony counts of weapon possession by a prohibited person.

Escobar was released from prison in 2005 after serving almost two years for a dangerous-drug violation, according to state prison records. He was also arrested on a DUI charge last year.

Why would he admit to any of this?  Fake gun, I would say.  Or it wasn't me.  And I would say that the videos were taken years ago before the conviction.  Or that it was all done out of state (and, thus, outside of AZ jurisdiction to prosecute).

NEVER ADMIT TO ANYTHING WHEN YOU TALK TO THE POLICE.  THEY ARE NEVER THERE TO HELP YOU!!!

George Orwell never imagined that the surveillance that allowed the government to track our every move would be provided voluntarily, complete with silly poses.
