Does It Matter if John McCain Plays on His Phone During Senate Hearings?

Senator John McCain

Yesterday, a fairly large deal was made of Senator John McCain playing what appeared to be poker on his iPhone during a Senate committee hearing on military action in Syria.

War, war, war, blah blah blah, I'll raise you five bucks, boots on the ground, war, missile strikes.

-McCain Not Giving a Damn About Being Caught Playing on Phone

McCain didn't really care that he got busted, either, as he tweeted, "Scandal! Caught playing iPhone game at 3+ hour Senate hearing - worst of all I lost!"

Hm. We were always taught to pay attention when someone's talking about killing people (read the Washington Post's account of the hearing here).

What do you think? Does it matter if McCain plays on his phone during hearings? It's hard to imagine it's the first time.

SO FUCKING DESPICABLE. Arizona continues 2 B D laughingstock of the whole country, because of conducts like D "MAVERICK'S", who suppose to know that he should show respect while beign at those hearings, specially on this one, where he is playing an important role with his vote, a vote on which could depend so many lives once the decision is made, whether 2 strike Syria or not. also he should keep in mind that he is beign paid by his constituents 2 attend those hearings,SHOW RESPECT BY PAYING ATTENTION AT WHAT IS BEIGN SAID,-it doesn't matter if he already knows- and make D best decisions accordingly. Instead, D Maverick is playing a fucking on-line game, and instead of apologizing he decides 2 make fun out of it and dares 2 post on D internet his "escapade". OF COURSE, IT DOES MATTER.

Yes, it matters !! Most people are not allowed to have their cell phones on at work. He's a tool

The guy could jack off while addressing the nation as long as the spontaneous bipartisan reluctance to go guns blazing at Syria at the drop of a hat, continues. In matters of war and war like violent attacks, looking before you leap should be the rule rather than the exception but there has to be a first time and maybe by god, this is that first time. But is he a buffoon for allowing himself to be distracted during discussion of an issue he champions? Of course

Why? Because he was doing what a lot of others do in meetings? We put cameras on these people 24/7 and then get upset when it catches them doing something the rest of us do? And trust me, I'm no fan of McCain. I don't think there's a country out there that he doesn't want to go to war with. But I think sometimes stories are made where there really isn't a story.

Yes - I agree. Had he won and become our President - would he have put the game down? Disgraceful. The regular person would be fired.

here is to hoping there is a 10 page rant on this in the NT! I will read it.

John Hook, said it best: On John McCain playing video poker on his I Phone yesterday during debate on Syria. I can't help but wonder how he would of felt as a Navy Pilot in Vietnam, knowing some politician in Washington deciding his fate, was playing games????? Just wondering......

LoriAnn Gershman

Let's put the shoe on the other foot.... Let's say, McCain is back in the Navy, and in Vietnam. What would HE think if war discussions were taking place in D.C. only to learn that his Senator is playing mindless games of Solitaire, while he and his troops are hanging by a thread in a war zone??! In addition, he thinks the whole Poker-playing gig is a joke, and has mocked the "bust." Very cocky, reckless, and, arrogant! YES! It matters!

He is a one trick pony. American military force is his solution for every international issue. We need to get rid of this antiquated mind still trying to win the Vietnam War.

McCain needs to retire. First he's for something, then he's not sure and finally he votes against it. I think it's senility and he can't remember what he said yesterday. He needs to go, war hero or not.

I agree..he is human. If Obama did it there would be even more cries for impeachment. I just don't think anyone should be playing games when they should be working. Just like when Clinton was getting bjs on company time. I don't judge his actions just that they are best done somewhere else and at some other time.

On Memorial Day 2013 I watched Senator John Mcstain on World News hobnobbing with Terrorists in Syria stunting for the media trying to get the U.S. to Support these Syrian Tyrants rather than honoring our Fallen Heroes like most Americans did on Memorial Day.

Now John has flip flopped again, however this tiime I am proud of his Flop.

I think Syria is a complete Terrorist State/Haven.

I also remember when the Obama care passed I believe in March of 2008 John McCain stated on National News to "We the People" that: "he would not co-operate on another single issue for the rest of the year."

He did not do another Damn thing for the rest of that Year, and still has done pretty much NOTHING to this day!

Yet "We the People" have to pay his, and the other Worthless do nothing  Politicians Salarys?!!!

Hey McStain, what do you think my Boss would do if I told him that I was going to do NOTHING for NIne Months, yet I was going to still collect my pay as you did?!

Any ideas on how the "Real World " works McStain?!!

Just Buisness as usual flip flopping right John.

How about next "Memorial Day" HONOR our Fallen Heroes instead of hugging Terroists McStain?!

To: Politicians.

@DNichols

The work of a Senator is not really done in Senate hearings.

@DNichols

Check your facts.  He met with the rebel leaders, not the "Syrian Tyrants".

Saying he won't cooperate with Obama is not saying he won't be doing his job.

His job is NOT to do what the President wants.

@Valley Native:

Check what facts?!

Current Syrian Rebels are associated with Terrorist groups.

U.S. Semnators should honor our Fallen Heroes on Memorial Day, not Hug Rebels in Syria!!

And McCain said: " He would not copoperate on any other issues for the reat of the Year"  period!! It had nothing to do with Obama, and McCain along with many, many others in the G.O.P. kept that promise!

They did NOTHING, but collect their unearned Pay Checks!!

Perhaps Check your Facts?!

This nails it, 100%

"One of the most valuable thing a Senator can do is to try to block Democrats from having their way."

Valley is not interested in actually having a government. Valley is not interested in the United States of America.

Valley is only interested in his 2 yr old desire to take his ball and go home unless he gets everything he wants... like a 2 yr old.

You and your idiot friends are the real terrorists and problem with this country.

@DNichols

You referred to "Syrian Tyrants",  Who do you think doesn't realize that you thought he had met with the government leaders?

You really have no idea what Senators do, do you?

He said that the Democrats should not expect cooperation from the Republicans because of the way the Democrats had rolled over the Republicans in order to appease Obama.

That doesn't mean he's going to sit on his butt and do nothing.  One of the most valuable thing a Senator can do is to try to block Democrats from having their way.
