Was Janet Napolitano's Decision to Leave Arizona a Good One?

Janet Napolitano

Yesterday, Janet Napolitano gave her farewell speech as the Secretary of Homeland Security, as she moves on to run the University of California system.

It's kind of hard to see the reward (for the rest of us) for her abandoning Arizona in the first place.

Napolitano left Arizona with Jan Brewer as governor in 2009, and Brewer's still here, obviously.

Not that the state was paradise with Napolitano around, but you'd have to imagine that Arizona doesn't earn the title of the "meth lab of democracy" without Brewer at the helm.

Napolitano hasn't really done anything exceptional at the federal level, other than bail out early.

She wasn't exactly immigrant-friendly as the head of DHS, although she was helping President Obama's cause on the immigration-reform front, as she endlessly swore that the borders were more secure than ever.

Now her biggest job is overseeing universities in California. Yippee.

So, for everyone not named Janet Napolitano, was Napolitano's decision to leave Arizona back in 2009 a good idea?

She needs to be put out to pasture with that fossil mclame. Unfortunately she will be spreading her vile anti American agenda to the minds of college  students.

Worse. Much as I dislike her failure to investigate Arpaio when she was Attorney General and her failure to deal with the abuse of children by polygamist Mormons, she was better than the Brewer on Jan's best day

Janet left us in the hands of Jan Brewer (another reason why our state should have a Lieutenant Governor - when a Democrat governor leaves you don't suddenly have a Republican Secretary of State take over) --can't blame Janet for wanting to work for the federal government, but she did leave the state in a lurch we're still trying to recover from.

She was a good governor, but awful at the Department of Homeland Security.

Now if they could toss Drunken Brew(er) and the rest of the the oppressive elitists then you start repairing the image of Arizona.

In retrospect, of course, HELL NO. Look at the mess she left for us. Old prune-face is just the beginning. Had she stayed, Terry Goddard would have a fighting chance. Even GED Jan, for all her faults and her massive brain fart during that debate, had the power of incumbency behind her.

The only problem is she cleared the way for an even crazier and incompetent loon

The Republic reported continuously how Napolitano made decisions that all parties agreed with. It wasn't until she became Secretary of Homeland Security that fellow AZ republicans decided to stab her in the back. And, they have been crazy ever since. Can't get honest answers out of republicans anymore

Weird. Pretty much everyone is in agreement so far. (As I am - Arizona has been continually embarrassed by leadership since Janet left). But -- where are all of you haters out there? You know who you are? I hope you are all OK!

I think this will fall into predictable ideological lines. Although I disagreed with Napolitano's stance on some issues, it is regrettable for Arizona that she left office. She was a clear thinking moderate and a solid Governor.

Worse. She would have kept the regressives in the legislature in check. Now, though, she is irrelevant to our politics.

Worse.however in my humble opinion Brewer us the worst.

She should have though about leaving a miscreant like Stinky Finger Jan in charge and taken pity on us and stayed.

Funny how the only two democratic governors in office in the 30 years I've lived here, Mofford and Napolitano, are the ONLY two governors, in the 30 years I've lived here, who HAVEN'T LEFT OFFICE UNDER A CLOUD OF INCOMPETENCE (HULL), CRIMINAL INDICTMENT(SYMINGTON) OR BOTH(MECHAM), the latter 3 being, of course, REPUBLICANS.

@shadeaux14

Arizona generally functions best with a Republican legislature moderated by a Democrat governor.

However, to be fair, the Democrat Governors have pretty much all left office early, so they didn't have a chance to leave under any sort of cloud.
