Joe Arpaio Celebrating the 20th Birthday of His "Concentration Camp," Tent City

tent-city-93.jpg
MCSO
The grand opening of Tent City in 1993.

Who celebrates 20 years of running what they describe as a "concentration camp," and takes pride in exposing men and women to the elements of the desert?

Only the leader of that "concentration camp," of course -- Maricopa County Fuehrer Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

As has been the case for several years now, Arpaio throws birthday parties for the lockup he described as a "concentration camp," as if it were his own child.

Here's part of the oh-so-important press release from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office:
To celebrate this 20th year, Sheriff Arpaio has authorized a "RETRO DAY"...one day where his no-frill policies are suspended, in part, and inmates at the Tents can enjoy coffee, better food, cigarettes, rental movies, unrestricted television and *adult magazines* as well as music from the 1990s.
The cigarettes are candy, and the "adult magazines" are Good Housekeeping and Woman's Day.

Other celebrations of the Tent City anniversary in recent years have included naming part of the jail "Section 1070" -- for "illegal aliens," of course -- as well as an Elvis impersonator, and a dessert of moon pies (which an inmate alleged had been in a freezer "for months," as he threw it on the ground).

Oh and by the way, those 9 Dreamer activists will not be let back into the country. Serves them right for trying to mock the government.   I hope they rot in the Eloy detention facility. They are where they belong!

Yes, Tent City is sure something to celebrate. I hope the liberals are really pissed off over it. Ha ha ha.

Such a high percentage of people that don't like him, yet, he always gets re-elected?? Is the system really that broken? If so, why the hell has it taken this long to do something about it. It's WAY overdue. We are adults, we be just fine without you Joe...

The DOC used tents long before MCSO.  Russ Pearce was the one that suggested it to to Joker, back when the three time loser worked for Joke!

And it was meant to be short term, while the new jail was being built.

^^^ Love the circus that much, you must be one of the clowns. Enjoy Alaska, Marco -- love your "white power" and "serial killer" posts. Another poster boy for racist insanity and hate-mongering. Nice. And if you're not paying for this, you don't get a vote. STFU.

Unfortunately, innocent people are wrongly arrested by this Sheriff with a now federally recognized record of civil rights violations. Nobody is safe from a Sheriff who selectively enforces the law, haphazardly enforces laws outside of his jurisdiction, and thinks demeaning other human beings, a number of whom are guilty of nothing, is hilarious. Who paid for that stupid tank? How much does it cost to paint perfectly good Smith & Wesson handcuffs pink? That Maricopa County is losing tens of millions of dollars of your tax money over his lawlessness via civil lawsuits is inexcusable. The county pays for his apparently inadequate defense lawyers as well. I just don't see anything to like here. This old guy is not a law enforcement officer -- he is a creator of lawlessness. He likes what he sees in the mirror and on TV better than he likes the laws on the books he is supposed to enforce. In a rational world, he would be viewed as absurd and a costly embarrassment. That "JoeZo the Clown" is considered a local hero is baffling to reasonable people. Enjoy the show -- you're paying MLB prices for a national joke and hate monger.

I will grant partial credit to the angry conservative argument that jail is for criminals and should not be comparable to a resort or spa. However, there are two things I feel people need to be reminded about: 1: Jail is for people who are either still awaiting trial (therefore not yet convicted) or have been convicted of a misdemeanor, not a felony or serious crime. 2: The United States has a Constitutional Amendment prohibiting "cruel and unusual punishment." No matter what someone has done, we should not reserve the right to expose them to weather conditions that have been known to kill people. I am fully opposed to the existence or even the mere thought of Tent City.

The victims of all those unpaid traffic tickets and college kids caught with a beer? Or do you really think Tent City is just filled with violent criminals? I had a foster son serve time there for writing on a walk in an alley when he was seventeen. Yeah, that's pretty hardcore. Definitely deserves concentration camp torture.

It's inhumane in our AZ summers. And I don't want to hear any more bullshit about how our soldiers endure triple-digit temperatures in the middle east. Those are healthy, well-trained, fit and strong individuals. Apples and oranges. People get sick and/or die in these temperatures all the time. And Arpaio thinks it's funny. Because he's a sociopath.

I am 100% in favor of tent city.  In fact, we should be expanding it nationally.  All of the buildings housing inmates could be used to house our homeless populations(veterans first of course).  The prison population does not deserve to be treated more humanely.

HA HA HA HA, UR A NAIVE TOOTHLESS HILLBILLIE, A SHEEP GOING STRAIGHT UP TO D SLAUGHTER HOUSE...SEE, THE EVIL SHURF IS VERY GOOD AT DECEIVING PEOPLE, SPECIALLY YALL HILLBILLIES LIKE URSELF, THAT YALL HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT LAWS, THAT ALL YALL KNOW IS ABOUT GOATS, TABBACCO, DONKEYS AND HOOCH.....EERRR........ JACK DANIELS. THE FETID FOOL IS NOT SAVING MILLIONS OF THE TAXPAYERS MONEY, TO THE CONTRARY, HE IS SPENDING MILLIONS ON ALL THE LAWSUITS FILED AGAINST D MCSO & ON HIMSELF, AND PROBABLY THE MAJORITY OF THAT MONEY IS ON HIS POSIBLE OVERSEAS ACCOUNTS, SPECIALLY DONATIONS THAT YALL FOOLS SEND HIM, THAT'S WHY HE HAS NEVER ALLOWED AN AUDIT 2 B CONDUCTED. i SAID THAT YALL REDNECKS HILLBILLIES SHOULD B MARCHED OUT OF TOWN, SINCE YALL DON'T CONTRIBUTE 2 ANYTHING BUT ILLITERACY AND 2 A CORRUPT SHURF. @FUQDAMEDIA

70% of the people in Tent City are PRE-TRIAL.  They are not convicted and haven't ahd their day in court.  Is that how we treat those who are still presumed innocent in the United States?  Educate yourself.

@FUQDAMEDIA. FUCK YOU SKUNK. Let me guess...U R a "homeless" looking 4 a place 2 get free food, free clothing, etc.... and avoid all kinds of responsabilities  while collecting UI checks.

And who D fuck U R 2 say: ..."in fact, WE should be expanding it nationaly"....blah...blah.Let see when U find urself in that concentration camp if U still think the same way.

elmergantry71

@FUQDAMEDIA Yeah, throw the poor in prison, that's it. Are there no prisons? Are there no workhouses? Screw you you heartless bastard.

FUQDAMEDIA
FUQDAMEDIA

@KennyKiklar Which is why the program needs to be expanded to include convicted prisoners being housed in the buildings.  Lets not pretend the US is a civilized country anyway.  We have the largest prison population in the world yet they are treated better than our homeless population.  If I had my choice I would choose a firing squad for any convicted felon, 50 cents per bullet is much cheaper than 30k-100k per year per inmate. By the way your 70% non convicted population number is a lie.

FUQDAMEDIA
FUQDAMEDIA

@IdontRecall Me? Won't happen because I am a law abiding citizen,  but apparently you belong there.  If these tents were good enough for our soldiers who fought in war for us and in much worse conditions than these convicts, then they are definitely good enough for all of these felons who don't give a shit about contributing positively to our society.

FUQDAMEDIA
FUQDAMEDIA

@elmergantry71 I didn't say throw the poor in prison moron.  I said utilize the buildings housing prisoners to house the homeless instead.   I didn't say the security systems in place used against prisoners would have any need if they were instead used for sheltering purposes for those in need.  You need to put your weed down for a while.  New Times is filled with your type.

@FUQDAMEDIA  I work in emergency medicine, and have a felony.  I'd love for you to let me know your opinion of felons and firing squads if I'm ever treating you, so I can know to stop treating you out of respect for your feelings.  Be sure to speak up.

@FUQDAMEDIA, BWA HA HA HA , U JAF's R so entertaining, specially when U come up with that: ...."are u twelve and not mentally challenged"...that's a classic 1 on the JAF's world when not able 2 think of something wiser. U claim not 2 support the fetid fool, although, U R using his same very words: .."if these tents were good enough for our soldiers who fought in war....blah...blah....blah..." it seems 2 me that U R his supporter and well indoctrinated at that.....oh wait....I think that I can hear the old fool calling U...I can hear him saying...poo poo...the old fool needs a diaper change....go ahead. DON'T FORGET TO POWDER HIM.

FUQDAMEDIA
FUQDAMEDIA

@IdontRecall Nice try. I do not support Arpaio, but that does not mean Tent City was not a good plan.  Are you twelve?  It may be past your bedtime.  If you are not twelve and not mentally challenged, I suggest you get an education, its never too late.

IdontRecall

@FUQDAMEDIA, UUMMMM....let me see....I bet that U  R from El Salvador or from Honduras, where firing squads R very common practice, I'll recommend U to go back there where U can enjoy that sight. Urs is a criminal mind, that at any moment can snap. Also U must B a fan Of that POS SHURF leaving under his bed, along with Jaffy and HILLFOLKREDNECK, I wonder when is UR turn to lick clean the gunk on his saggy balls.

FUQDAMEDIA
FUQDAMEDIA

@KennyKiklar No, every felon committed a serious enough crime to warrant them as such by committing felonies.  If we used a firing squad as punishment for all felons, I bet felony crimes would reduce exponentially.  But you and your poor widdle felon co-workers don't think that's fair, boo-hoo. I don't give a shit or have sympathy for them.  Now, the homeless population, I do care about, yet, your widdle felony buddies had more rights and access to more things while locked up on our dime than the homeless ever have had.  Wake up already

KennyKiklar
KennyKiklar

@FUQDAMEDIA "If I had my choice I would choose a firing squad for any convicted felon..."

Yeah, because everyone who has a felony is always some kind of murderer or rapist, and no one ever gets a felony in AZ for stupid shit like marijuana.  I work at a business that employs multiple ex-cons, including a few with felonies.  They are some of the hardest working co-workers I have ever had, have changed their lives and behavior, and are contributing a great deal to society.

Your idea is the typical kind of hyperbolic knee-jerk statement that makes it clear that logic matters little to you.
