Mesa Man Insists He Has a "Permit" for Bags of Meth He Was Carrying

Police say that a Mesa man scaring people at a gas station was carrying several bags of (surprise!) meth with him at the time.

The man, 38-year-old Nakia Laye, insisted to police that he had a permit for all that meth, according to court documents obtained by New Times.

Believe it or not, there's no such thing as a meth permit.

Laye was at the Circle K at Rio Salado Parkway and Alma School Road last week, bothering just about everyone there, according to the documents.

His behavior was apparently so strange that several people drove up to gas pumps, saw Laye, and decided to continue driving.

Laye said he was just asking for a ride and handing out his "business card," and he was arrested for disorderly conduct and trespassing, according to the documents.

Police then searched Laye's bag -- which Laye said was his -- and found three small bags of meth.

"When the defendant saw that PD found the crystal-like substance and the pipe, without being asked any question, he stated, 'Oh, shit!'" a police probable-statement says. "He repeated that several times and then stated, 'I have a permit for those!'"

It turns out Laye did not have a meth permit because it's imaginary.

He was booked into jail on felony drug charges, as well as the trespassing and disorderly conduct charges.
