Army First Lieutenant Jonam Russell.

Army First Lieutenant Jonam Russell, a 25-year-old from Cornville, was killed in Afghanistan earlier this week along with two others after they were attacked with an improvised explosive device, according to the Defense Department.

Russell is the 48th Arizona soldier to die in Afghanistan under "Operation Enduring Freedom."

According to Stars and Stripes, the armed forces' newspaper, "Troops were accompanying an Afghan army unit on a foot patrol in the village of Sultankhail when a suicide bomber rode toward them on a donkey and detonated his explosives. In addition to the three dead, four Afghan soldiers were injured."

Russell is the 50th Arizonan to die in "Operation Enduring Freedom," with the first being Pat Tillman, who was killed by friendly fire in 2004. (One Arizona soldier died in the Philippines in 2005, and another died in Djibouti last year during "Operation Enduring Freedom" operations.)

There were also 98 Arizona soldiers who died during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

This is my cousin and he wasnt fighting for anyone one the hill or any GOP nor democratic party. He fought for his country because he thought it was his duty as any able bodied young man to serve his country. He did not fight for our goverment. He fought for his family and loved ones and the people he left behind. He was a amazing young man he touched everyones life he came into contact with. The world lost a great son. He was loved and will never be forgotten. He will live on through all those who knew him. He served his country and payed the ultimate sacrafice for his beliefs. Im not sad for him i'am proud of him. His only regret is that he only had one life too give. RIP Jonam i love you cousin

My nephew will be one of the military honor guard participating in his memorial tomorrow.  Will be one of the soldiers for the 21 gun salute.  The army is pulling out all of the ceremonial honors for Lt. Russell, as well they should.  He gave his life for his country.  God Bless him & God Bless his family & friends.  May he forever rest in peace.

Sadly predictable: another young man dies for nothing.

Nice revision.  Almost every Democrat in Congress voted for the invasion, too, and how's Obama doing bringing all of our boys home during his first term?

Most of the people in the nation also agreed that we shouldn't allow Afghanistan to shelter Al Qaida training camps.    Were you arguing against it at the time, or just now that it's what the cool people are saying?

George aWol Bu$h = the only president to start, and lose, 2 (two) wars against far smaller, weaker and poorer sovereign nations, slaughtering 100s of thousands of innocent civilians in the process.
