Will Congress Pass an Immigration Reform Bill?

The U.S. Senate voted 68-32 yesterday to pass the comprehensive immigration-reform bill brought by the so-called "Gang of Eight."

The problem for proponents of this bill is that it needs approval from the House of Representatives, which doesn't seem likely.

"The House is not going to take up and vote on whatever the Senate passes," House Speaker John Boehner said before the bill's passage. "We're going to do our own bill, through regular order, and it'll be legislation that reflects the will of our majority and the will of the American people."

The bill passed by the Senate already makes it incredibly difficult for the millions of undocumented people in this country to gain legal status, and what Boehner's calling for -- more border security -- was already added to the Senate bill, to the tune of $38 billion.

There's still dealing to be made, but do you think that everyone can come to agreement -- or, enough lawmakers can come to an agreement -- to pass on an immigration-reform bill for President Obama's signature?

1986 Amnesty Deja Vu

Sen. Ted Cruz said after the senate legislation the following about Senate majority decision: "Sadly, this bill won't fix the problem with our immigration system and will only encourage more illegal immigration and human suffering and added,

“I strongly support commonsense immigration reform that secures the border before legalization, fixes our legal immigration system, and upholds the rule of law. This bill isn't it."

All those who signed onto this bill are warned of the consequences, because hardly anybody read the bill outright before approving it? All these Senate Republicans have risked their political future. Alexander, Tenn.; Ayotte, N.H.; Chiesa, N.J.; Collins, Maine; Corker, Tenn.; Flake, Ariz.; Graham, S.C.; Hatch, Utah; Heller, Nev.; Hoeven, N.D.; Kirk, Ill.; McCain, Ariz.; Murkowski, Alaska; Rubio, Fla. Then having that obnoxious witch Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano with her hand on the switch, with full authority is tantamount to a catastrophe in the future. I wouldn’t trust this loose cannon advocate, than I could spit or puke. She has shown her irritation to the “Rule of law” by releasing dangerous illegal aliens felons back on the streets, using the Sequester as a flimsy excuse. With this Political appointee the chances of immigration being fully enforced with her in control, is a giant mistake.

This De facto amnesty is a malfunction to enforce the nation's immigration laws on the interior of the United States. It is not a border issue. Chris Crane, president of the union who represents 7,000 immigration and customs enforcement officers stated, it cannot and will not end as a result of amplified border security. It must be determined through increased interior enforcement? But the fact is that the man who knew just about everything governing the border was ignored by the Gang of Eight.

I hope not. I love my latin brothers and sisters, but I hate the Republican and Democratic Parties of the US.  There are almost 4 million people worldwide (25% of which are Mexican Nationals) that are on the Visa Applicant Waiting list that this bill will do nothing for.   600,000+ people become Naturalized US citizens every year, this bill is a slap in the face to all of them as well.

The General Law on Population enacted in Mexico in April 2000, which mandates that federal, local and municipal police cooperate with federal immigration authorities in that country in the arrests of illegal immigrants.

Under the Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony, punishable by up to two years in prison. Immigrants who are deported and attempt to re-enter can be imprisoned for 10 years. Visa violators can be sentenced to six-year terms. Mexicans who help illegal immigrants are considered criminals.

The law also says Mexico can deport foreigners who are deemed detrimental to “economic or national interests,” violate Mexican law, are not “physically or mentally healthy” or lack the “necessary funds for their sustenance” and for their dependents.

Not a chance. What are the odds McCain read all 1200 of the pages himself...billion to 1. Anyone in the senate or congress who support this garbage, should be brought up on treason charges. Nothing more than a very poor attempt to subvert organized labor, and to re-populate Illinois and New York. Of course the folks at PNT won't mind a 30 % pay cut over the next 20 years, and sky rocketing taxes to pay for all this bs. peace

No, this won't pass and neither will anything else.  Congress is broken.

Don't get too confident yet because the House will surely reject it.  I mean can you believe that it centers around securing the border first but it contains language that they try to cleverly exclude border security. What kind of idiots are they?  It is surely political suicide for any politician who voted for the Bill.

Congress is not just "Broken" since the so called "Patriot Act" overode the President, the Senate, Congress and our very U.S. Constitution none of them have accomplished anything because we are no longer a Democracy, we are a Covert Police State run by an Out of Control Pentagon that spends all of our Tax Dollars on Communist type Spying Programs of "We the People" including Tens of Thousands of Spying Drones which have been Scanning Americans inside our Homes for Ten Years with no revenue  left for Congress or the Senate to work with.

We call this Out of Control Spying our new wonderful "Ballooning National Deficit.

Bi-partisonship has not Broken Congress, Congress has simply been VOIDED by the Pentagon.

@JAFFYDUCK, HEY IDIOT U need to refrain from commenting on something U have no idea of bitch. U just REGURGITATE whatever the WITCH FROM THE WEST mumbles....secure ......uummm...secure the ah, ah....that line.......ah.....the border first. And U R asking what kind of idiots R they? U R THE PHOENIX IDIOT.

While I don't necessarily disagree with all you say, I do think your focus is a bit off.  Congress passed the Patriot Act, Bush signed it into law, and the Dems came along later and renewed it.  Congress is not a victim in this.

Congress also controls the purse strings. It is not a victim, it is an active participant, and if members were more interested in the country's well-being and less interested in members' well-being, it would likely be a lot different country right now.

Yes, our military industrial complex has taken over, and that, plus other multi-national corporations have purchased the elected representatives that makeup our government.  Congress is not a victim; it is a bought entity with members interested solely in more money and more power.
