Dale Hausner, one of the two serial shooters who combined to kill six people in the Valley between 2005 and 2006, died today at age 40 from "unknown causes."

An Arizona Department of Corrections spokesman says Hausner was found unresponsive in his cell at the state prison complex in Florence just after noon today, and after being taken to a hospital, was pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m.

Hausner was sentenced to death since March 2009, after being convicted of 80 crimes, including the six murders.

The county medical examiner's office will conduct an investigation into Hausner's death, and an ADC spokesman tells New Times there's no more information at this time.

Hausner wasn't exactly down with spending a whole lot of time in prison, who told the Arizona Supreme Court last year that he wanted to be "served with my death warrant to be executed as soon as possible."

Hausner's partner in the serial shootings, Samuel Dieteman, is serving out his life sentence at the state prison in Buckeye.

Well, we'll see how he died, but it seems to me that he got off easy. Most of those guys get to sit in that hell hole for a long time before they meet the needle. It can't be very pleasant.

I don't understand the comments suggesting that this was some sort of cosmic punishment for him.  This was actually a release from punishment, and will probably be found to have been suicide by drug overdose.

What goes around, comes around.  It now saves the State of Arizona of feeding & housing that pond scum.
