Andrew Teaters
A 29-year-old charter school teacher in Gilbert had sex with a student, according to police.

Andrew "A.J." Teaters, a sixth-grade teacher at the school, Gilbert Early College, admitted to having sex with a 17-year-old student at the school in his classroom, according to court documents obtained by New Times.

According to the documents, Gilbert police got an anonymous tip about the relationship earlier this week, and the girl told police she willingly had a sexual relationship with Teaters.

She told police they started flirting at the school, then flirted on Twitter, and that all escalated to their having sex in his classroom.

The girl's father was recorded on a confrontation phone call to Teaters, who admitted the relationship, according to court documents.

Teaters was arrested Thursday afternoon at his home in Mesa (where he lives with his wife and kids).

Teaters, who worked at that school for five years, was still forthcoming with his admissions to police when they interviewed him, according to the documents. He was booked on three counts of sexual conduct with a minor, and one count of sexual abuse.

In two recent examples of male Valley teachers having sex with 17-year-old students, former Paradise Valley High School teacher Jordan Doneskey, who was 26 at the time of his relationship with a student last year, has since been sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison.

Another, Brian Bizzell -- a former band teacher at Estrella Foothills High School in Goodyear -- was sentenced in August to a year in jail for his relationship with a 17-year-old student.

Both of those men earned "sex offender" titles.

When I was in high school a teacher married the principal's daughter when she graduated.

The age of Sexual Consent is 17 or LOWER in the majority of the U$A.

Why are Arizonans such parochial prudes?

The girl said she willingly had sex with the teacher. Well, of course she did. How else would a 17-year old be having sex with a 6th grade teacher in his own classroom. This relationship had probably been going on for some time. Some of the readers of this blog might be thinking, "well, 'least he ain't no homo." Hehe.

@eric.nelson745 Actually, I'm thinking that when I was in high school I might have considered him a dilf. Hey, when you're a young lady you make poor choices. It was more of a risk for him--he'll have lifetime probation for this...

@eric.nelson745 and if he were a "homo, some of the readership would have no problem with what happened.  One another front, if the "victim" were a male and the teacher a female, well, the child would be considered a "stud."

You have NO idea you idiot! I'm the Dad who made the call. Don't say stuff you have no idea about.

@jbunny @eric.nelson745 Well, as you can see he is attractive to the point where one wonders why he risked it all for jail bait. And since the 17-y.o. chickie was in his 6th-grade classroom, it would not be out of the question that she initiated the tryst.

@yourproductsucks @eric.nelson745 Yeah, well back in the day a teen (male) who hooked up with a reasonably attractive teacher would be regarded as one studly dude, with hi-fives all around. Was the 17 y.o. chickie a victim? Don't be silly. I still wonder how she ended up in a 6th-grade teacher's classroom? I don't believe for a second that she got lost. Hehe.

@jmjrsy ... so why did you raise your daughter to be a promiscuous slut?

eric.nelson745

@jmjrsy I don't believe you're the dad. Now go bother someone else. Oh and if by some weird chance you are, you should understand that people are going to say stuff like that. The article stated that she gave it up willingly. That pretty much explains everything.

@eric.nelson745 ... the MAJORITY of the U$A sets the age of sexual consent at 16 (sixteen) years old.

Are Arizona teenagers some special kind of stupid that they can't figure it out until 18 ??

@jbunny @eric.nelson745 Well, it's still the law in AZ so he really can't put the blame on the chickie. I can just imagine how it went down (his being arrested for boinking someone who couldn't give consent). She told a friend about it ("can you keep a secret?"). Of course, once you've told your secret to someone else, it's no longer a secret. So the girlfriend tells another and it eventually got around to the dad via a friend's mom, who then called the cops. Now instead of demanding that teach be sent to the electric chair, he should ground the chickie until she's 18. One thing's for certain, which is that dad wasn't paying enough attention to who the chickie was seeing and hanging out with and staying out late. End of story.

@eric.nelson745 @jbunny @yourproductsucks I've been following Joe's antics since I moved here in '94, just curious what YPS thinks since, from what I gather from reading comments, he works for MCSO. I know the law is for real, but when a 17-year-old can state she was a willing participant, it seems crazy that any resources are allocated for this guy's lifetime probation, tracking where he lives, etc. And yeah, I know Joe is as corrupt as the day is long.

@jbunny @yourproductsucks @eric.nelson745 The law is for real. Enforcement really is not a financial burden on Joe's budget per se, seeing that he squandered $100Mil for pet projects and not for which it was intended. He is also guilty of causing the wrongful deaths of inmates in his gulag to the tune of in excess of $50M. I doubt that he would give much thought to anything you might recommend to him.

@yourproductsucks @eric.nelson745 YPS, just curious--and yeah, I know I'm posting days later--does that law make sense to you? It seems like a chunk of resources could be redirected to other areas of MCSO budget. I admit I'm biased, I work in a social service setting (private company) but do work in some of the jails. I have zero knowledge of MCSO resources, requirements, funding limitations, and general inner workings though.
