Phoenix SWAT Team Rams House, Kidnapping Suspect Shoots Himself During the Raid

Categories: News
Around 8 a.m., Celis began shooting, police say. With hostages still inside -- and rather than take fire from Celis -- the SWAT team rammed the front of the home with an assault van, an enormous, Batman/ice cream-truck-looking thing. Nearly all hostages had been freed, and by the time officers made it to Celis, he had shot himself, police say.

Police arrested another man, 20-year-old Christian Celis that morning as well. Christian was found trying to sneak into the house while police negotiated with Celis.

Authorities say Christian was probably just trying to talk some sense into his relative. He's in the process of being booked on endangerment and obstructing a government operation.

I love how the media twists the information. 1st of all Israel did not go to prison for a drive by shooting. He shot at the ground when he was 17 to rid gang members that were about to kill him. He did time because he did shoot in a residential area and you automatically get 7 years due to the Shannon Law. 2nd of all Israel was trying to surrender, Israel wanted reassurance that his children would not be harmed. The PHX PD utilized their excellent negotiating skills by becoming so aggressive and telling him "that they were going to come in with police dogs and full force if something happened to the kids that was on him". 3rd of all his wife's story does not support the evidence that is shown that she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted. If anyone knew them they would know they were in the middle of an ugly custody battle she knew where to get him where it hurt and it was to take his kids away. She knew how to get him in trouble don't believe everything you here. Finally, Israel did not take his own life he was killed by the 20 year female, Bernadette. Israel is not a killer and a monster like everyone is portraying him on the news. He was a loving father his kids were everything to him he never would have wanted this to happen or his children to go through this. He never had the intention of "going to mexico and abducting the kids" The situation escalated into an unfortunate tragic situation that could have been handled differently...

Unlike New Times and apparently the 2 people who have commented on this, I won't pass judgment on their actions without knowing the full story. In fact, we know very little. Lisa, Nobody said sneaking into the house COULD have been accomplished. They only said some a-hole was TRYING to sneak into the home. You have made a leap from 1 piece of info to a conclusion about another aspect of the situation. Also, your suggestion to walk through known entrances of a house would eventually get you killed as a SWAT officer. Wouldn't it be prudent to assume a guy who has gone through the effort of barricading himself in a house and seems to be intent on an all out Armageddon ending might have those entrances booby trapped, or have his guns trained on those doors? Ya think, maybe? Some would argue $20,000 damage to a house in an attempt to create "new" safer entrance points is a small price to pay if the potential to save some lives was there. ie Don't come up on the guy from where he has already prepared for you to do so. Cris, So you DON'T consider kidnapping, holding children hostage and barricading yourself in a home with guns to be "drastic", but you DO consider damaging some stucco and 2x4's in an attempt to gain surprise access to be "drastic"? Thank you for not bringing your logic skills to the table at the command center. I promise you this. If the police are ever trying to hatch a plan to try saving your life from some unpredictable guy hell bent on destruction, they will give NO consideration to damaging the potted plant outside your front door. Hopefully you can thank them later. They don't create the situations. They are just called upon to try to bring them to the best resolution possible. I emphasize the word "try". Nothing is for sure in these situations. It can be a lesson in probabilities, statistics and educated guesses based on assessments at the scene. Each is different. It is obvious to me they would not have attempted such a dynamic entrance if they didn't feel it was time to do something dynamic.

They rammed it twice, kinda stupid, plus they were all standing around or on the tailgate, bunch of savages in this town.

I was there and I saw the whole thing. It was pretty dramatic. MCSO did the right thing when they rammed the house. The noise was loud enough to wake the dead.

WHAT?!?! They arrested his family member that was trying to sneak into the home? and.. if sneaking into the home could have been accomplished.. why then was it necessary to RAM the house with the vehicle? Also.. wasn't the garage door already open - couldn't they have gained entrance by ramming the front door or interior garage door? OVERKILL I say!!! ugh!!

Leave it to phoenix police to do something so drastic. And not get anything positive out of it. Keep your hands where i can see em or ill have someone shoot you or run you over. We will plant the evidence later.

I think they should give this guy US Citizenship since he is an outstanding law abiding catholic.  This guy loves Jesus and he loves the US.  We need more of these types of stand up people in our communities, they make this country so much stronger.

@JoeArpaioFan  i dont know what house you are talking about......this one was hit by Phoenix swat, not MCSO's. so if you were there when MCSO hit a house..........it must have been Arpaio trying to pull out of a parking lot again (he just hit a house instead of a rock this time)

Hey moron, that wasn't MCSO, that was Phoenix PD SWAT team. If it was MSCO they would have rammed the wrong house.

@Bnbk @JoeArpaioFan I did read it. I am so used to quoting MCSO it was justa  habit but yes it was Phoenix PD, my mistake.
