Republican Congressman Shows "Walkway and Stairs" Across Arizona's Border With Mexico

Congressman Jason Chaffetz delivers a thumbs-up to Mexico.
Republicans seem to be getting VIP tours of the border lately to see how the border-crossing magic is made.

First, Senator John McCain was on a tour of the border last week when he watched a woman hop right over that "danged" border fence, and now, a Republican congressman from Utah is showing off a walkway that goes right over the border, from Mexico into Arizona.

"No fence," Congressman Jason Chaffetz's staff posts on Twitter. "You can walk across the border, with handrails."

As McCain's posting showed, the fence didn't really do a great job of keeping a person in Mexico, but, in Chaffetz's case, it obviously means that authorities know this little path exists -- if that means anything.

More photos from Chaffetz's trip, including checkpoints and whatnot, can be found on his Twitter account.

Chaffetz is a moronic asshole who wouldn't know up from down. This is a walkway to the river, not across it, as marcy pointed out. A lot of us don't want him in Utah, would you guys like him? You already have the market cornered on crazy politicians, one more couldn't possibly hurt.

The fence is a waste of money! It's not working, and it will never work. Building the fence takes land away from owners who have had that passed down from generation to generation, it cuts through precious lands, and worst of all, it threatens endangered species. Hire more agents!

What is ridiculous is thinking a fence will keep anyone out. I'd like to keep the neighborhood cats out of my backyard. I have a fence and, believe it or not, the cats have figured out how to get over that fence. Only an idiot will waste money on a border fence.

How about a moat with sharks and armored knights....these people are ridiculous

Chaffetz is a bit confused, that set of steps is on the US side of the border.  Mexico is across the river so while Jesus might be able to walk across the border, Hector, Maria and Fernando are going to have to swim.

@marcy @WTF.... are you seriously that much uneducated on Geography and how the Colorado river flows and crosses into Mexico?  and the fact that it doesn't divide the two, why would anybody use the Colorado river to sneak into the US? you obviously have never even seen it.... it runs 'parallel' btw

Next time use GOOGLE Earth Sweetie.

@WTF.... @Mikey1969 The only reason that I would say yes is that Arpaio is so old that by the time he got his shiat together enough to run, we might only have to suffer 4 years of him at most. I would think it would take 4 or 5 years to get his support base organized, that would put him 84-85 years old, and nobody is going to elect a 90 year old man to Sheriff a county(Except the blue-hairs in Minnesota who keep voting Joe in_), so we MIGHT have to suffer 4 years.

You might have a deal there, buckaroo... :-)

The Colorado river separates Arizona from Mexico for a 16 mile stretch southwest of Yuma.  It is, in fact, where those pictures were taken.

No charge for the geography lesson honey.

@Mikey1969 @WTF....

You might want to rethink that

Although I am ALL for giving you Sheruff Jo(k)e, don't assume it will take him long to get a power base going, he comes with one pre-installed.

Remember, 70%+ of his campaign donations/monies came from outside of Arizona - his money base, which is really all that matters, comes from the republican party that he puts on such a good show for.

He's already conned them and has them in his pocket, ready to go at an almost moments notice when he needs it, to fund media ad time and to get his ugly mug in front of a camera as often as possible.

He could move their and blitz the media with enough of his bullshit, parading on his so called "success" record in AZ, that he would probably stand a good chance at taking the first election cycle available to him.

Unfortunately, if there is one thing Joe and the Republicans are good at, it's making bullshit look convincing and buying votes through the media.
