Former teacher Jordan Doneskey
The price of having sex with a 17-year-old student is a 3 1/2-year prison sentence for former Paradise Valley High School teacher Jordan Doneskey.

As part of a plea agreement, Doneskey will spend the rest of his life on probation, will have to register as a sex offender, and agreed to forfeit his teaching certificate.

Compared to other Valley teachers caught up in sex-with-students scandals, Doneskey got a pretty tough sentence.

Almost a year ago, former Phoenix teacher's aide Gabriela Compton was sentenced to probation for having sex with a middle-school kid in addition to groping another kid and sending nude pictures to a couple boys, who, naturally, passed them around school.

In Doneskey's case, police were tipped off to his relationship last year, and the 17-year-old girl told investigators about several instances of sexual contact between her and Doneskey -- who was 26 at the time of his arrest.

Then police informed the girl's mother, which seemingly would've been horrifying for a mother, but she told police she knew all about it, according to the documents.

The girl's mother -- who police said had "an extensive employment history in the field of child protection" -- told the cops she actually "allowed" her daughter to have sex with Doneskey in her home, court documents said. She was still employed as a social worker at the time of her arrest.

Doneskey admitted that he had sex with the girl "approximately" five times, according to the documents, and was still one of the girl's teachers this school year, which also was the case during the previous two years.

Doneskey faced five counts of sexual conduct with a minor, but the plea agreement included three lesser charges.

I was in the Court at the time reporting on the Phoenix Temple mess from raid in 2011 not on 3rd indictment with threats of long prison terms if don't plead for criminal enterprise since maybe a few of the 39 maybe gave pleasure via "release" so everyone with any association is guilty.  Huge waste of resources maybe $1 million cost to State..   BUT in between the various Temple cases called the Jordan case was called (and Arias trial next in same court/judge).

A very mature, women who was the "victim" of Jordan D was in Court with her father and a bunch of other supporters.  I didn't realize the pool cameras set up for the Arias murder trail at 9:30 were on just looked like set up for murder trial. So I was surprised to see the news coverage on at least 2 TV reports including the testimony of the "victim" on 12News at 10.

The very articulate poised victim said to judge:

"As an adult I would like to confirm my opinion that Jordan Doneskey does not deserve punishment for the relationship that took place between us.  While I was not 18 at the time as I am now, I do not feel that he deserves any punishment or that I was incapable of making any decision based on my level of maturity.  I feel that you should take these words into consideration when you make final decision on sentencing and I do not believe that he deserves any prison time. Thank you."

Dave notes Arizona is only one of 11 states that have age 18 for consent - all other states are lower, Canada is age 16 as are many other countries and some as low as age 12 (Mexico in some circumstances)

Jordan was very articulate. apologized for anyone he had hurt (not sure who victim was) and expressed remorse for his actions.

when I was  at casa grande HS in 1977,we had a teacher engaged to a student, they would park in the parking lot(where we would stand and smoke) and make out until the bell rang.

he would go to teach class , and she would go to her classes.

we also had a cheer leader diddling coach that got caught, and transferred to Bisbee .

not a big deal then! not condoning it,just stating facts

casa grande is a strange place.then and now.

Once again here we have the New Times defending child molesters.

Whoever Amber is, you must have it in for the teacher. The amount of counts is irrelevant once he plead.  Why would you even bring that up?

The victim was 17 at the time of the arrest. In fact, she was 16 when the relationship was acknowledged by the mother. Also, the teacher faced 10 counts, not 5.

So I guess I am a bit confused.  The "victim" was his girlfriend, who turned 18 just after the arrest.  If she was 18 when he had sex with her, yet was still a student, what kind of sentence would he have received? I can understand if the girl was not close to adulthood, but 3.5 years and registration? I dont think this type of sentencing was put in place for a situation like this.  Poor job by his attorney to let this occur.  I am more concerned about the predators out there who are going after children, not 17 year olds.

Sheriff "Paul Rump Ranger Babeu" did the same thing with a seventeen year old male student at the School he ran when he lived in "Mary Land"?!!!

No Jail time for Child Predator Babeu, hell John Mcain claimed to Babeu "Now you are one of us."

The Arizona G.O.P. was running Babeu for Congress.

If this teacher was part of the Arizona Sheriffs Dept. or the G.O.P. he wouldn't even have been charged!

To: Equal Justice for all?!

@JoeArpaioFan LMAO wait, you dont give two shits that arpaio and MCSO ignored HUNDREDS of child molesters, and you have the gall to claim New times is evil for comparing two cases? Put the glass dick down bobbi boi, you are far too high today...

@JoeArpaioFan LMAO this coming from a person who just a few days ago defended an MCSO employee who stabbed his father repeatedly.

@JoeArpaioFan Im not sure the new times is defending anyone. They are reporting the news.  You are taking away your own credibility with your comments.

@JoeArpaioFan By definition a child molestor is someone who abuses someone under the age of 14. According to gene Abel and the Abel Assessment which determines sexual deviancy, the normal attraction for a hetero adult male is adolescent females (14-17) and adult females Keep in mind 37 states have 17 as the legal age of consent. Please do some research before responding on here.

@Arpaio's Butt Monkey (JAF):

Arpaio allowed Four Hundred and fifty cases of "Child Molesting/Child Rape " to go un-investigated , even as the same Children were continually being Raped!

How many years should Arpaio be in Jail for for Neglecting his Duty to "Enforce our Laws" that protect Children?!!

Your Hero Arpaio is no better than the Child Rapist he allowed to continue Raping years after Schools even reported it to him!

I think this makes Arpaio worse than a "Child Molester."

@azscott1980 I have a vested interest since I live in the neighborhood, and the district seems to have continually been a common denominator in student/teacher scandal. And the number may be irrelevant, but I remember the case and noticed the discrepancy. Also, I originally meant to reply to azscott.

@Amber9 whats your thoughts on a female teacher sleeping with a middle grader getting off easy, while this guy slept with a Jr/Sr in high school and got the book thrown at him? Dont get me wrong, the guy deserves jail..but im sick of seeing females getting off easy for this, while guys get the books thrown at them..there should be no difference in sentencing, especially that different. Just my opinion though...

azscott1980
azscott1980

@Amber9 @azscott1980 My initial response was a hypothetical. Lets say the teacher waited a few months before having sex with the girl and she was 18.  Not an age issue, but a violation of the teacher/student position of authority criminal statute.  Would you still view him as a sex offender type person?  Also, what should the sentence be in that case?  In my opinion it should be a termination of his teaching license. Im curious to what your thoughts on that would be.

@david_saint01  I am not familiar with that case, but I agree --  shouldn't be a double standard.

azscott1980

@Amber9 @azscott1980   I just dont see how registration as a sex offender makes sense in this case. As someone who lives in the area and has a law background, this guy didnt deserve such a harsh sentence.  The felonies enough ruined his life.  The prison time is usually reserved for the damage done to to the victim and the So registration is reserved for danger to society. I just dont see it.

Amber9

@azscott1980@Amber9 I'd agree with you, in that hypothetical case. I also would support a teacher's mandatory removal of certificate, simply because of the trust that is broken in the community. Teachers are trained and well-versed in what is appropriate. In this case, she was not close to being 18, considering that the news has reported that the relationship was "several" months long and this particular teacher taught this student for 2+ years)
