Jeff Flake "Has Already Become One of the Most Unpopular Senators in the Country," Poll Says

Senator Jeff Flake, not the hottest thing since sliced bread.
Despite Arizona's reputation as a state of gun-lovers, it looks like Arizonans still support background checks for all gun sales.

That appears to be the reason why Senator Jeff Flake, who recently voted against expanding background checks for gun purchases, has "already become one of the most unpopular Senators in the country," according to an opinion poll of Arizona voters.

Public Policy Polling -- which had some pretty accurate polling numbers in Arizona from the last election -- found that Flake's approval rating among Arizonans is 32 percent, and the "net approval rating" of Flake is the worst that PPP had polled, which used to be Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

The background checks appear to be a contributing factor for hatin' on Flake -- almost all Arizona Democrats support background checks, most Independent voters do as well, as do a majority of Republicans (92 percent, 71 percent, and 50 percent, respectively).

"52% of voters say they're less likely to support Flake in a future election because of this vote, compared to only 19% who say they're more likely to," PPP says in a release. "Additionally, voters say by a 21-point margin, 45/24, that they trust senior colleague John McCain more than Flake when it comes to gun issues."

Total idioscy in Department of Education's Hardship waiver section. A seventy two year old man in poor health has provided the same information three times in the sixteen months these people have been unable to make a decision.

Senator Flake made an unsuccessfull attemp at an effort for five months, now this gentleman cannot get an email reply from his office.

Total income is social security $817 per month, rent $300, treasury takes $67, utilites $65,
food $300, gas $20, web access $40 and $100 for the extras that come every month.

Flake doesn't care about us "little voter guys."  He's been bought and paid for by the uranium mining in Grand Canyon, NRA & Koch Bastards.  86 Flake with a recall, asap...

"Would you support or oppose requiring background checks for all gun sales, including gun shows and the internet".

Let's take a look at that question.

We'll ignore the fact that what's currently called a "background check" is a joke.

The bill that Flake didn't vote for would NOT have enforced background checks for all gun sales.

Hector, with no criminals record, could still buy a gun at Cabela's and sell it to his cousin "Drive-by" Diego without any background check.  But that's still not the most interesting part of the question.

"including gun shows and the internet".   That's sort of fascinating.

Let's get "the internet" out of the way first.   You can't ship a gun over the internet.  I hope that's clear.  There's no law against it, it just doesn't work.

There is, and has been for some time, a law against shipping guns to customers.   If I want to buy a gun that I see advertised on-line, I have to tell the seller which federally licensed dealer he should ship it to, so that they can run the "background check" on me, charge me a fee for that service, and hand me the gun.

"gun shows".  The infamous gun show loophole.

Urban myth (and Democratic bullet point) tells us that 40% of gun sales take place at gun shows and don't involve any background check.  That's a lie, loosely based on a study that was performed decades ago, before there were any background checks, when you could buy a shotgun at your corner drugstore, and which included all guns given as gifts, inherited, traded etc.  The question simply asked if the gun you had acquired most recently had come from a dealer.

The reality is that if dealers didn't know that they would be getting far more than 60% of the sales at gun shows, they wouldn't pay the fees or the payroll to attend them.  And, if you hold any opinion on the topic, I'm sure you've done enough research to know that licensed dealers selling at gun shows perform the same background check that they do at their stores.

Thanks for posting the actual questions.

That allows those of us who understand psychometry to immediately recognize it for what it is.

It's a "push poll", designed to manipulate responses, not measure them.

The striking thing, and one of the biggest reasons for Flake's poor poll showing, is that his support among his fellow Republicans, while not terrible, is less than stellar. In AZ's highly polarized environment, a Republican needs the support of more than 57% of his own party if he wants to flourish. Flake's so-so showing among Republicans says as much about its defects--above all, its large extremist fraction--as it does about his.

I think something else that hurt Flake was when it became more widely known that he had lied to the parents of the young man who died in the Aurora theater shooting who are his constituents.  He had told them he supported background checks, but when it came time to vote on the bill, he voted against it, leaving them and many others to question his trustworthiness.

Actually it's McCain who has lost his popularity.  He is a disgrace to Arizona.

The reason people hate Flake has nothing to do with his stance on gun-control.  It is because he was one of the gang-of-eight assholes who are trying to ram amnesty down our throats.  This is Arizona, the birthplace of SB1070 and both of our Republican Senators are working with the Democrats behind closed doors to allow millions of illegal immigrants amnesty!  What is wrong with this picture?  McCain is predictable, and he has made some allies in his decades in office.  Flake is a nobody who's first meaningful act in office is to go against the people who elected him.  Big surprise he is the most unpopular senator in the country, he deserves it.  Too bad we have to put up with his lying, treacherous ass for 6 more years!

I intend to keep his record and post it a lot during his re-election bid. Maybe then, he won't think a 6 year term saves him.

What can you expect when you elect a Flake?  We should have learned after having a gun nut named Shooter barge into a school!

A poll like this is pointless, what did you think you were getting when you voted for him? Will it matter in another five and a half years or will people have forgotten by then and moved on to the next distraction. Guess we're still on the verge of war with North Korea.

@Comanche_Moon The salient question of course, would Jeff vote for himself now that it's become clear that he has sold his soul to the Tea Baggers to gain their votes, over the wishes of the majority of voters? You may be his only vote, Comanche.

@Tommy_Collins @Comanche_Moon   The job of a Senator is to actually understand the bills better than his constituents, so he can vote based on what the bill actually says, rather than on the sound-bite associated with it.

Most people want better background checks.  So does Flake.  This bill would not have provided better background checks, and certainly not "universal" background checks.  If the majority of voters understood the bill, they wouldn't want it, either.
